My lad played with him for NC Tigers U9's eight years ago. His dad didn't like the set up at City. I probably wasn't very clear, but there two things were not connected, I still know his dad.
City shouldn't be losing local lads to teams so far away - especially not to teams that are 'on a par' with us at professional level. Obviously the youth set up is less than on par with teams we're on a par with professionally though - so City should be talking to the parents of these young players and finding out what they expect for their child to avoid losing more talent.
It's a sorry situation, it begs the question I've asked many a time, why have we never considered improving our youth system? Specially with the success we've enjoyed in the last 10 years, surely some of the money we've acquired during this period could have been put into a pot here and there or made at least minor improvements now and again. And even more recently, with all the investment the Allams have made in the club, and their self-sustainable vision for the future of the club, surely a decent youth system is very high up on their agenda? I've never even seen improvements to youth or training facilities mentioned by anyone official at the club, other than duffens Melton training ground which was rightly taken with a pinch of salt. We have to have one of, if not the worst youth facilities in the professional league pyramid. How many players in the whole professional structure actually came from Hull and the surrounding area? Not many I will bet, and considering the sheer size of the catchment area for Hull City to recruit young players from, it's quite tragic.
Never seen that eye on the cubs thing before. His old man was a ****ing good player, I can imagine he wouldnt have been impressed with our set up. This is a shocking indictment of our set up. But as Barmby did get your lad out ASAP if you want him to have a chance of progressing. His old man used to go in Bridges back in the day too, good lad, an annoyingly good looking bastard too.
Reading are very highly regarded in terms of their youth set up, so many players have come through their youth system and played in the Premiership, done really well for themselves. I struggle to think of more than a couple of City players in the 25 years I have supported them.
I went to school with Harry's sister and know Harry quite well as we both played at city together. The lad is going to make it, he's 6"1/2 and his pace is unbelievable, represented England schools in sprinting at 200m and relay too. He's got the all the attributes and can finish, personally i think it's a massive loss for city. I'll be speaking to his sister tonight, try find out the reasons why he left!
Lewis McGugan's signed for Watford, a few on here have mentioned they'd like us to go for him. I guess Bruce wasn't a fan, good signing for Zola though.
We're apparently in for Wilson Palacios again. More chance of him joining us now we're in the Premier League. He's the more defensive midfielder that we need IMO. If we could get him between £1-£2m, it'd be a bargain.
Guessing this is the "£2m prem midfielder" that was mentioned recently. Quality player on his day, easily good enough for us, however difficult to judge now since he's barely played for a season and a half.
Body of a god!.... Also heres a page with every player the media has linked us with so far this summer. http://boothferrytowembley.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page.html
Does the lack of interest in our players suggest that they aren't PL quality, or that clubs are looking more towards foreign markets?
But players like Brady, Chester (who to be fair was linked with Villa) and Quinn who looked a class above haven't had any serious interest (good I suppose) shown in them. Suppose we'll see in January.
I don't think there's much interest in our players as we've just been promoted so have no need to sell. We'll be wanting to keep a sizeable squad intact to make sure we have sufficient cover for anything that might happen over the next 12 months, so therefore I'd imagine we will want some proper coin to let anyone near the first team to leave.
TT not sure i agree Quinn was a class above I'd say he'd found his level, in fact if palacios comes Quinn would be getting splinters on the bench and if brucie finds another Meyler can sit next to him
