Mauro Zarate on a free, we'd be mad not to try and get him.

Are you daft? Liverpool are about to make a £5,000,000 profit on a player they've barely even used.

In other news, Hull are 1/5 to sign Charlie Austin, and are expected to complete the deal by the weekend

And bad news for Cardiff as Cardozo's agent reportedly says that he would rather stay in Portugal than move to the Premier League.

Man City could change his mind but I feel they could do a lot better and sign his team mate Rodrigo

Yep and the fact he has basically given up on football and is only there for teams stupid enough to pay him.

True but he's 26, had an impact on the PL last time 'round, is Argentinian and has a bit of what we are lacking (pace and ability to get a goal). I'd be very happy with him.

Wasn't too long ago he was a £20m player for Lazio and one of Maradonna's golden boys for Argentina.

Not saying it's risk free but given that he's unatached, has some PL experienced, is the right age and could prosper in our system then I reckon it's worth a punt.

Liverpool have a right cracking deal there if £6m for Shelvey is correct. At PL level, the guy is totally and utterly useless.

I accept that he potentially has potential, if that makes any sense, but that is it! (Yes, I'm not even going as far as to say that he actually has potential!). A guy of his quality should have never played as much for Liverpool as he has.

I would be furious if we paid £6m to sign him.

Apparently the Director has said they need to sign Shelvey to get their british quota up. <laugh>

I'm not totally convinced about Shelvey to Swansea. I will accept I'm wrong if it does happen, but Laudrup has made some signings that are three, four times as good as Shelvey, and he's signed them for three, four times less than the price touted. If I was a Swansea fan I would be bitterly disappointed.

I always been under the presumption that that is the reason why City signed Sinclair and Rodwell last year. (With money being no object to them, why not have those British squad fillers being of a half decent quality, just in case they are ever needed).

But I'm surprised that Swansea would need to get their quota up, especially given their Welsh contingent.

Whilst I wouldn't be surprised to find that Vic has been having second thoughts about the offer we presented to him(now the realisation of only two clubs coming in for him has set in), I cannot see any further negotiations going on with NC. Its not just the way the player publicly criticised the offer, although I can't think of a bigger snub in recent times, its also the twitter comments about his agent being owed a big pay day, as well as him. I think the bridge has been burnt......but I also can see this thread continuing right up unto the last. Respect to clingers, they sure can cling!

(thought I was on the VW page, opps)

There are only so many Michus and De Guzmans out there. If Swansea fans are going to hold Laudrup to that standard for every player they sign, they're going to be disappointed a lot, because most EPL quality players are going to cost a few million. They need someone like Shelvey so that they can confidently play Michu where he's best. I think it's a smart signing from a tactical point of view.

Apart from Michu, who else meets those criteria?

To be fair both Chico and Hernandez were both excellent value for money and Ki looked good in the bits I saw him play as well. Add to that the couple of highly rated spanish players he has bought in in this window for next to nothing and I think Laudrup has done some excellent business.

Shelvey will be a useful squad player for them as he covers positions in which they have little or no cover at present. £6m a bit steep for cover, but he is still only 21.

If I was a Swansea fan I would not be over the moon with the signing but not hitting the street with pitchforks either.
