I bet you're loving football at the minute aren't you. All that lack of trophies and competing for them really gets the blood pumping. Must be good to know Arsene shares similar feeling with Arsenal fans, who needs trophies indeed. No fun in winning. Not serious btw
The point is, that whilst we all naturally have the desire for our club to win trophies, it shouldn't mean that we don't enjoy watching them when they don't. I'm a firm believer in supporting the players, manager and team come what may, through thick and thin, through times of plenty and times of drought. In fact it's when the chips are down and people around are losing their heads and screaming for the manager to be sacked, scapegoating individual players etc - that they need our support the most. There's a famous Bill Shankly quote 'If you can't support us when we lose or draw, then don't support us when we win' That for me, along with the Dennis Bergkamp quote 'Do you really like Arsenal, or just Arsenal with trophies' pretty much sums it up for me
I've had a bit of a soft spot for Arsenal since your unbeaten league season in 2003-04. Henri applauding the Fratton end in a Pompey shirt after you'd beaten us 5-1 in the FA Cup. And we were one of only two sides [bloody Manure the other one] who managed to DRAW both league fixtures with you! I hope St Totteringham's Day comes round a bit earlier this season
Cheers Fella. Whether it happens in February, March or April - St Totteringham's day is always an annual event
"St Totteringham's Day is the day when Arsenal fans celebrate the fact that Tottenham can no longer catch Arsenal in the League." Sun, 19 May 2013: Spurs could no longer catch Arsenal in the league
My logic was based on the fact that you couldn't find a source to prove that the Bergkamp quote was false. Not based on you blatantly making up bollocks quotes.
Why is who said it so important? Quotes are usually chosen because they are poignant, and succinct, and because they express a point well. Diverting the argument to the source of a quote, is usually the sign of being unwilling to refute the substance of the quote. I once saw Piskie ask someone, 'Do you really like Arsenal, or just Arsenal with trophies?' So now there is a source for the quote, it must be true - right?
In my time as an Arsenal fan we've had more trophyless seasons than seasons with trophies. My support has never waned and never will.
