Welcome aboard Noel Hunt. As Ive previously said, weve had loads of Irish lads at the club down the years and to the best of my knowledge, they've all been a success. Given Hunt has played for McD, Ive no doubt he sees lots of things about him he likes. I'm actually as happy with this signing as yesterdays for different reasons, I love to see some of "our" lads at Leeds
I dont know much about this lad, but a winger is what we need and I trust McDermott as a scout We havent done bad previously by raiding teams such as home farm so lets wait and see
Morning Fella So thats Green, Hunt and possibly Forrester now. Need a few more Jocks in the mix as they have history of perfoming for us, although I dont think Rosh McCormachhhs needs a drinking partner
According to his facebook page, his mates were congratulating him on joining us. Ive said previously, we should be scouting more in the League of Ireland. Doesnt take big transfer fees or wages to lure players so risk is minimal.
He did. If I remember rightly signed for about 350k. Considering he is now probably wort 5m plus, shows the type of bargains can be picked up here. Kevin Doyle was originally signed for a couple of hundred k as well
There's definitely bargains there, I have a feeling Seamus Coleman from Everton was signed from Sligo Rovers as well? We should start scouting in Ireland/Wales/Scotland more, there are good players available at cheap prices.
I totally agree! My staple of live football is Irish League and though the Irish League is only semi-pro, the standard of the better players in the league here would probably surprise many. Hopefully it'll only improve too as clubs and football here are now looking to overcome the multitude of problems and difficulties stemming from the past and catch up to speed. There are a few young players who rose through the ranks here who I would have loved Leeds to try to sign over the past couple of years. The likes of Rory Donnelly who Swansea signed from Cliftonville for a couple of hundred thousand and Stuart Dallas who Brentford signed for a token development fee from Crusaders. There are several in the league right now who could make it across the water, esecially at League One or Championship level if given the chance. Watching Setanta Cup games where Irish League clubs play LoI, there are certainly plenty of talented young players in the LoI too which thankfully does seem to be a place BMD is familiar with in scouting for prospects. Only in the last couple of years have we really seen talent scouts more regularly appearing in the stands. I think a lot of it is just down to the lack of exposure these leagues recieve.
I met a scout last time I was at Elland Road called Thomas over from Ireland who scouted youngsters for Everton in the leagues you mention. Works for playing for the future and a decent bloke
Oh yeah, he had a few caps didnt he? His parents are Irish (no **** with a name like that!) but he's a Halifax lad thats what threw me
Well its now official, our third signing has arrived http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20130703/hunt-completes-united-switch_2247585_3227117?
