I'm not sure he was ever clearly not good enough.

I agree, although some posters made the assumption that him not breaking into the team was a sign he wasn't up to it.

I really get the impression we're about to see a domino effect - waiting on Wanyama's decision (supposedly this week) will of course impact on what we're doing with other signings. If he's our first choice midfielder, then we could well be waiting on that - once he says yes/no, then likely we'll see a few people come in fairly quickly.

This may just be wishful thinking of course.....

Nixon continuing on Twitter - saying that the deals that have gone sour are down to the Don's inexperience in the market.

Yeah, although I think opinion was split and probably still is. It is/was definitely an odd situation and he still may not be good enough but I just find it hard to believe a guy Solskjaer said was good enough for Man Utd would turn out not to be as good as Jos Hooiveld.

Think he's deleted his tweets now as all I can see now is the Cortese made a big fuss to be in charge of the cheque book tweet.

They look like they're still there to me, unless there were even more earlier?

He's clearly referring to the Wanyama deal, which clearly isn't entirely off or Wanyama wouldn't have much of a decision to make.

Frankly Nixon knows very little beyond the UK's borders so he's not likely to have any idea what other targets we're pursuing.

Alan NixonAlan Nixon ‏@reluctantnicko Protected account 56m
    @tom7lawrence Too quiet.

    Tom LawrenceTom Lawrence ‏@tom7lawrence 56m
@reluctantnicko is that quiet before the storm u think?

Alan NixonAlan Nixon ‏@reluctantnicko Protected account 54m
@tom7lawrence There will be a storm if it stays this quiet. Coach wanted players. The Don demanded the cheque book ... Who to blame now?

    Tom LawrenceTom Lawrence ‏@tom7lawrence 53m
@reluctantnicko sounds like a conspiracy theory u have there ha ha

Alan NixonAlan Nixon ‏@reluctantnicko Protected account 52m
@tom7lawrence No. The Don wanted control. He got control. If he can't sign players it is on him. No-one else.

    Tom LawrenceTom Lawrence ‏@tom7lawrence 49m
@reluctantnicko so is it wages , agents fees, over ambitious targets or a combination of all 3?

Alan NixonAlan Nixon ‏@reluctantnicko Protected account
@tom7lawrence Seems like targets are good but problems crop up. Best word to cover all of the failed deals is 'inexperience in market'

I think the only reason people get off on Nixon is because he replies to them. They feed off of each other and both seem to get an ego boost out of it.

It whiffs of speculation though, rather than fact.

Not really, but as I said, his expertise is confined to the English and Scottish leagues. As far as he knows, we are only after Wanyama, but he will look pretty silly when we sign 3 players from abroad who he's never heard of.

Agreed with both points but the word "if" is prominent in those comments. He seems to be trying to lay some early foundations for a possible future "Cortese fails in the transfer market" story but that's to be expected. He's a journalist, that's what they do - if we sign big players it's a big story, if we don't it also has to be a big story.

Yes, he will look pretty silly if we sign 3 players from abroad he's never heard of but that's also a speculative comment, it's just speculative in the other direction.

Considering how little we managed to pay in agent fees last season, I'd speculate that "inexperience in market" is a problem that Cortese doesn't have.

Dead right, in fact the structure he has put in place at the club is pretty incredible for someone who walked into the business four years ago. Not being behind Cortese is basically a fringe view now which I don't think many owners can claim, particularly after sacking two popular managers and hiring two unknown ones.
