Phil Neville seems to think it's a good appointment.

He tweeted 'Clever move by Harry Redknapp bringing in Steve Maclaren [sic] as coach-outstanding coach on the training ground, players will love his training!'

    League 1 here we come!

Promotion odds drifted, relegation odds shortened.

Mclaren as coach looks fine. Just so long as the club's doesn't groom him to take over from Harry. He's proved he's not manager material

I have to say that on first hearing this I was trying to weigh things up. But overall I think this is a shrewd move. He will bring some respected coaching to the player sessions. Offer some new ideas to the staff. Possibly share some buying opportunities to scope out if needed. If its for 3 months, so be it; can't be that bad of an investment.
Strong back room team for pre-season - so "show me the money" boys - "show me the money". Time to get things flying from day 1 and set out our stall to win in style!

Have to agree with you SW, if we can by whatever means break the malaise of the training ground from last season, get the lads working together with new sessions, mould them back into a team, great. Great coach for SAF, three months with our guys can only be beneficial. Agree with comments about his managerial record but in some ways has covered that with his time abroad. He's got his name back in the limelight, will be off to bigger things before we know it.

Having thought again, I'd much rather have Venables or Hoddle as a part time/short term coach, if we are going for ex England managers. Or Capello. Or even better some unknown whizz kid from Europe who we can develop to take over from Harold. But I don't think H does succession planning, and beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

I think I'm fairly happy with his appointment. He's running out of options so really needs to prove himself. Anyone behind us with a desire to succeed is a good thing. Don't like his hair much but you can't have everything.

Ignoring the dull personality & the Eng stint....many a reputation has foundered on those shores....I think this is a shrewd move if he's given enough space by the other army of coaches on the bench...seriously where are the Subs going to sit!!

Facts are - he Won Boro their first trophy & got to a European final I think....Won Twente the title in Holland which is prob the equivalent of Everton or Villa winning the PL....& was instrumental during the transformation years @ MUFC

No manager has an unblemished record in the current era so can forgive him the Forest debacle which was out-Blackburning Blackburn at one point...or dare I say it QPR!! Even Fergie wouldnt have survived his first 4 years if they had happened in the last 10 years. Smart coach, top players highly rate him. Seems a shrewd move

Bigger question is what the **** do Bond & Jordan bring to the party

I think he has stated that he is looking to get back into management and this is a way of him marking time. He has been described by many as an excellent coach, Fergie included. Has to be better than Cotterill. He will also have some pretty up-to-date knowledge of good young Dutch players, so we might snap up one or two gems from over there...

Can't believe this .............. forget whether he can coach or not, you only have to look at him and see he has 'tosser' written on his forehead.
