well... lets be fair, they have won stuff and are in the cl every year so they can think they are in the same league as clubs they play against.

Soviet Top League / Ukrainian Premier League

    Runners-Up (12): 1975, 1979, 1993–94, 1996–97, 1997–98, 1998–99, 1999–2000, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2003–04, 2006–07, 2008–09

    Soviet Cup / Ukrainian Cup
    Winners (13): 1961, 1962, 1980, 1983, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013
    Runners-Up (8): 1963, 1978, 1985, 1986, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009

Soviet Super Cup / Ukrainian Super Cup
    Winners (5): 1983, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012
    Runners-Up (6): 1980, 1985, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011

    Europe
    UEFA Cup
    Winners (1): 2009
    UEFA Super Cup
    Runners-Up (1): 2009

thats right from wiki so must be true ;) they have a rich owner and utterly dominate the ukraine now. they will be in the CL for a very long time if they keep making money like they did off fernandinho and next mkhitaryan.

they have more recent European pedigree than we do so i suggest a little humility from on this one and take that assholes comments, pin them to the wall alongside everyone elses and go get back where we need to be.

It's just ridiculous to compare the 2 - you could argue the same with Celtic but 9/10 players (especially foreign) would go to a team that struggles every season in the PL if given the opportunity.

thats fine but where's their uefa cup. sorry but this lot shouldn't be ridiculed for talking from their perspective just cos he said neither we nor tottenham are like barca or them. He is factually correct... they compete with these big clubs annually cos they bought their league...

Oh and if they were in the prem... UEFA CUP WINNERS 2009, just sold fernandinho and are selling mkhitaryan... I think they ave a much better team than we are willing to readily admit... better than i'd say most of the bottom half on a guess even without those now sold.

Take it as an insult if you like but i'd rather a reality check... we are being viewed like the spuds <laugh> reason enough to want to improve. reality is we are not in the europes elite and need to work bloody hard to get back. 25mil spend on one player is sign for hope though....

Yes and celtic win their crappy league every year and "compete" in the CL, but we're still a hell of a step up from them

    Controversial view......

celtic don't have tax free wages nor a rich owner.... if you gave celtic a billionaire owner and they could offer tax free wages would they not become monaco... I think we are simply slating a very good side cos we don't like their manager telling us what we really are.

shaktar are in a ****e country but we are not so hot compared to london lads, reality... russia, turkey... ukraine. you name it they are paying the big wages and top players are going. Lets not be big headed about it.

so last season shaktar finished second in their group and lost to dortmund in the next round... the previous year they were 4th in their group and the year before that they WON their group with arsenal in it and got to the QF where barca beat them... celtic on the other hand were in the group phase only one of those years and they did in fairness get second than the got hammered.

Lets just be fiar to them cos thier euopean pedigree, which he boasts about, is pretty good.

io don't like it any more than the next red but it motivates me more to want us to succeed and shove it back at them than just to call them small.

We have the history, but not the current. Shaktar would probably do us over two legs at the moment, Zenit did.

maybe... but i fancy us taking zenit this year after a year of learning. so I'd love to have a go at shaktar in the next year or two to ram the words down his throat "respectfully"

  17. Does make a club great then? I thought it was a results business? Obviously these things could help a club win matches but they still have to actually win them. IMO, it is irrelevant where the money comes from when comparing clubs in this way.

Am I the only one who agrees with him? I don't think he meant it quite like he did, but that why leave to not play champions league and not make a step up to the biggest of clubs like Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern.

    thats fair enough.

Monaco only have a cl final to boast on but will be going for trophies in france now but is that great? no but we have a stature and that's great but we shouldn't be up on a high horse when shaktar remind us of what we've done recently... which is results based. He compared us to real and barca then to his own club. I'm sure the wages after tax are comparible but the shopping window we give is not.

I think if celtic had billions the socttish league wouldn't matter to the llikes of mkhitaryan or yaya toure for that matter. celtic bought hopper of scunthorpe. if they paid 90k per week their team would be competitive in the CL I'm sure. thats my point. shaktar dominate in the ukraine due to wealth. wealth has made cheslea "great" whether we like that or not... it'll make city great eventually and it sure as hell never harmed utd.

Its just the way i see where we are and where any club can be if the money and players flood in.

  20. I think the comments about us not being a Barca or Real are fair, we aren't! However, Shaktar are no Monaco either despite the latter not having won much in recent times. IMO, Monaco are not a Liverpool either, least we've won a League Cup, FA Cup and CL since Monaco competed in the CL final!

End of the day, it comes down to an individuals opinion. If they want CL football, they'll choose Celtic, Shaktar, etc. If they want a competitive league with a chance of CL football, they'll choose Monaco, Liverpool, etc. If they are good enough to choose a Barca, Real, etc then these teams become irrelevant!
