Mark Hughes insists there will be no repeat of his QPR nightmare at Stoke

New Stoke City boss Mark Hughes insists there will no repeat of his Queens Park Rangers nightmare this season.

Hughes will begin his Stoke reign desperate to wipe out the memory of what happened to him at Loftus Road.

The former Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Fulham manager blotted his copybook a year ago when he was sacked by QPR after failing to win a Premier League game in 12 attempts.

Rangers went into a slide and Harry Redknapp could not save them from the drop.

But Welshman Hughes believes Stoke is a different animal after chairman Peter Coates backed him to fill the gap left by Tony Pulis - who kept the club in the top flight for five seasons.

And Hughes is confident they will stay up again.

The Potters boss said: “Absolutely. Without a shadow of a doubt. This is a group that has been used to being in the Premier League.

“They have the mentality and the knowhow to win Premier League games, which is really difficult.

“Maybe that was one of the failing of the group at QPR.

“Maybe there wasn't enough of that knowhow collectively.”

Ironically, Hughes’s last win as a manager was against Stoke at the end of the 2011-2012 season.

But while Hughes spent big at Rangers, he is prepared to be more modest with the chequebook at Stoke.

He has signed Dutch full-back Erik Pieters from PSV Eindhoven in a £3million deal.

But he has also hinted that there may not be that many new faces at Stoke between now and the end of August.

Hughes added: “You can bring in players from top clubs but you still have to have the knowhow to win together, to work as a team, and that's what we found difficult at QPR.

“My intention is to repair my reputation at Stoke City and stay here for as long as I can.

“After a month, six weeks max out of the game you are desperate to get back in, because we are all football people. That's what we do.”

Maybe you're just a clueless boss. You said the same thing about us a year ago.
The poor Stoke fans have got to suffer this buffoon and his crap 'expansive pass and move' brand of football that will eventually see them relegated.

Whilst I'd like to see him sacked by Christmas, I have a horrible feeling he will do OK and in turn the way he destroyed QPR will be forgotten.

Well he has now recruited all the usual suspects to help him...Bowen, Nedwickzi (however it is spelt) & Hodges...all he needs now is Rigg and he has a full house....so at least he is planning in a thorough way just as he did with us......

And whose job was it to instill that winning team mentality?! Thoroughly annoying man.

I think he probably will do ok but that will be because he now has what he failed to create at QPR.

Not like he didn't spend enough money to bring in players with that mentality/knowhow. I'm not usually the kind of person who would say he doesn't deserve another chance but he doesn't deserve another chance.

Seems like Hughes is still radioactive material, with a half life of eons.......he was caught in a downward spiral with us and couldn't cope after eating too much in the sweet shop, but I bear him no malice and reckon he will turn out a functional team.

So, our erstwhile leader thinks Stoke will be OK under him does he? This **** couldn't keep Manure in the premiership. What an arsehole, I have nothing against Stoke, but I hope Hughes makes a bigger mess of the job up there than he did for us and gets the sack and soon!!

I like the way he says "his QPR nightmare." think we're the ones having bad dreams, while he walks blissfully through the fields of gold that is the premiership!! Glad to see him buying young promising talent on the cheap now as well......

Stoke were the worst team on earth to watch under Pulis, and now Hughes is in charge I hope they go down with zero points!
