Perch is as good as gone according to NUFC.com.

Wigan for £700k. Would rather we'd given him a new contract. This sale smacks of a further attempt to upset Pardew. If they throw enough crap in his face he might walk - think like MA. Poor work from our board once again.

    From NUFC.com:

The three year career of James Perch at Gallowgate is set to end imminently, with Wigan Athletic favourites to complete a deal for the 27 year-old utility player. A figure of £700K has been speculated upon for Perch, who has just moved into the last year of his Newcastle contract.

Perch had attracted the attention of Championship sides including Leicester City and former employers Nottingham Forest, but now looks to have been persuaded to become a Latic by their recently-appointed boss Owen Coyle.

Moving to SJP in July 2010 after an abortive attempt to bring him from the City Ground the previous January, Perch made his bow in a pre-season victory at Carlisle.

A competitive debut followed in the season-opening loss away to Manchester United and appeared at right back until Danny Simpson recovered from ankle surgery.

Perch drifted out of the first team after the arrival of Alan Pardew as manager, losing his place at full back and making infrequent appearances as centre half cover.

The 2011/12 season however proved to be a momentous one for him, beginning it languishing on a reserve team tour of Holland but ending up as a solid performer during outings at full back, centre half and midfield and with the affectionate nickname of "Perchinho."

Injuries to Ryan Taylor and Danny Simpson then saw James enjoy his busiest season as a Magpie to date, completing a half century of league appearances and scoring his first senior goal, at Old Trafford.

His 81st and final outing came from the bench at Loftus Road as United secured their top-flight status in the penultimate game of last season.

Coming after the departure of Simpson, Perch's exit further erodes the domestic contingent in our squad and although we've not always been his biggest fans, he's served the club well and provided excellent value.

It remains to be seen whether the same can be said of their successors....

This pisses me off royally, since I really like Perch. I'd sooner see the back of Jonas or Tiote. Even Cabaye going wouldn't annoy me as much, since he clearly wants away.

Just making it clear to everybody that the club isn't being run right.

Simmo gone, Perch "as good as" gone, Raylor out all season. I see the increasing domestic players idea is going well!?

I just think this is barmy. For 700K you might aswell keep him. I'd keep him anyway as he is useful to have around. But I'd certainly want 2m-2.5m if he was going. Never lets us down.

So we're now net -2 on players in?! Mental. Squad is too small, what's the answer? Get rid of players?!

That said, I'm pretty sure it's Perch <-> Vainquer. I think we were waiting on the French lad to be free, so I would imagine salaries are the same and we've just pocketed £700k. Plus we've pretty much sealed Kemen who's another CM/DM. Seems a bit odd that we're getting close to putting a French first XI on the field....maybe we're hoping to join Ligue1?

Have to agree that selling Perch doesn't really make much sense, surely he is useful as an all round utility player and versatile enough to play in a variety of roles. If we were going to get a decent fee for him, then maybe, but 700k is surely neither here nor there.
Li don't get the feeling that Perch wants to move on, so for me this seems like a bad move.
Didn't Pardew want more experience ? In the squad and players used to the demands of the Premiership ?
Perhaps as has been suggested, this is just another straw for the managers back. If Kinnear is so astute, why is he not suggesting that Perch stays ?

I really think it's this. It's the only thing that makes any sense. A decent player on low wages who wants to stay and wouldn't ask for much when negotiating a new contract. Pardew likes him and requested he got a new contract and the response is to sell him for a pittance. It's a public slap in Pardew's face.

He's been too busy carp-ing to the press about bringing back a pike-y whos already moved elsewhere.

He's more reliable than Tiote. What a ****ing shocking piece of business.

Roll on next season where we have Tiote out within the first 6 games. Fan-****ing-tastic.

    **** off Pardew.

Why has this got to be down to Pardew - from my understanding Pardew wants him to stay

Because, IMO, if there's a single brain cell in the heads of anyone that had has anything to do with running our football club, whether it be the manager, chief executive or the owner, they will see that Tiote is a liability on the pitch, has been **** for the last two seasons, and is probably on more than double what Perch is on. So why get rid of Perch?

It makes no sense that well sell Perch who isn't on high wages for less than what we bought him for. Surely we'd want a higher price than 700k. For that much we might as well have kept him.

That's my thoughts anyway. Pardew would have had his say in this. It's not a big money sale, so it's not as if Ashley and Kinnear will be bothered about overruling Pardew and discarding his opinion for less than a million.

I'd rather James stayed. Not the most exiting play but loyal, willing to play anywhere for the cause and reliable. Better than Jonas, Obertan, Ameobi(both), Gosling yet we are giving him away for £700K. Shocking

Doesn't make sense to me, who will we get as good all round cover for £700k?
