With these two's contracts running out yesterday - now effectively becoming free agents. McShane's likely to resign for us, but are we likely to see Cairney offered a new deal?
Cairney's contract has another year left on it. McShane was offered a new deal about a month ago. The club made a statement of exactly who was and who wasn't being offered a new deal ages ago too.
From the OWS Cairney page. "Continuing to impress on a personal level despite City's eventual relegation from the top-flight, Tom committed his long-term future to the Tigers when signing a contract extension up until the summer of 2013" http://www.hullcityafc.net/team/pla...yerid=431312&tcmuri=29767#c2Kx7APYxkK3ZO1V.99 & I know about McShane, like I said, likely to resign for us.
This is true - it shouldn't. Cairney's one-year extension was a funny one - it never seemed to get an official announcement. Didn't fans find out from his Twitter feed that it had been extended?
I think he'll be going out on loan and then he'll be released. SB clearly doesn't rate him and he hasn't really done anything to suggest he deserves a new deal. We'll be playing with Meyler, Quinn and Evans, plus whoever else SB brings in, so I can't see there being a place for him in the first team. He'll probably end up at somewhere like Doncaster, but both Yeovil and Bournemouth showed an interest but apparently the distance is a bit of an issue.
I wouldnt be surprised to see McShane on his way. He may have become some sort of cult hero but he simply wont cut it in the PL.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Evans for me is a decent box to box midfielder with a good engine. His performance against Leeds was quality and he fully deserved his goal which was well taken. I'd much rather have him in the team than TC. Cairney has great feet but he lacks that strength you need to be a midfielder. His sideways passing is frustrating because he's supposed to be more attacking than defensive. He was at one point the best free kick taker at the club and has a left peg as good as anybody else I've seen. But his lack of ambition (he knew he wasn't going to feature but he never pushed for a loan somewhere else to prove to Brucey that he was worth keeping)
With the greatest respect to them both, I think they're both ****e. In Evans favour he doesnt annoy me, he's just limited, whereas Cairney is just a bit of a knob. He really doesnt realise he's in danger of throwing his career away before it's ever really taken off and in a year's time when he's released he wont understand why only bottom division teams are after him rather than Barca and Bayern.
Oh FFS, this again......OTHER TEAMS WANT HOBBS, THEY DONT WANT ALEX OR MACCA. That is precisely why we're likely to keep them rather than Jack. Faye's contract extension was mandatory.
I just like my footballers to be able to kick the ball, is all. You wouldn't see tennis players who are super fit but can't serve, return, lob or smash a tennis ball, you wouldn't see rugby players who can't throw or catch. The sideways passing argument is ridiculous particularly when compared to someone like Evans. If it's a choice between one midfielder who passes sideways a lot (which isn't even a bad thing anyway) and one who passes to the wrong team, I know which one I'd prefer.
Who would you have rather have on the pitch and in your dressing room - Gary Neville or Jimmy Bullard? One made the best he could possibly be with limited talent, the other the exact opposite.
I get the point you're making and I agree to a point. But I think in English football we take it too far and far too often we discard our better players because they aren't athletic enough, then when it comes to a major tournament and national team don't achieve whatever it is we want them to, we bitch and moan about the lack of technique in English football.
But I dont think we have any players with exceptional technique who have been discarded by England. Who was the last to tick this box - Le Tissier? He was hardly world class. The last English player who had the talent you refer to was Scholes and he got ****loads of caps and his club and national sides were built around him. I just simply dont think we have any players of that level now.
I'm not starting an English football debate but I'm talking about players like Carrick who until this year everyone insisted was **** and had hardly played for England. Cairney is the best example, although that's obviously from a Hull City stance rather than an England one.
I agree with this. Players like Korren seem to just appear in their late twenties, probably because they get spotted young with talent and then spend a lot of time sat on the bench because a manager thinks they are not physical enough.
