Yeah possibly. I like the look of our attacking options now if Suarez was to stay but think defensively we are still short. If Suarez goes not sure who we would attract in terms of big name signings. Just hope that if he does go its sooner rather than later ,don't want anymore panic buys.

Reina is better than Valdes. He'd walk in over him.

  8. Midfielders picking number six seems to be a bit of a modern thing. Similar with defenders wanting number four.

Aurelio had number six last didn't he?

do first team numbers mean that much now days?

Carra used to be 23 and a few others had high numbers as well, so numbers we used to in the past associate with first team numbers and usually the starting 11 don't mean much now days do they.

any one name a team that still use the old fashioned 1-11 in their starting 11?

not really, just some guys might attribute something to it still...

beckham was not too pleased losing his number when going to real but he ended up making a brand of his one. Carragher made 23 his breand as it were. gerrard is obsessed with no 4 for england and no 8 for us... god knows why two different ones.

at a world cup getting a starting shirt number is seen as something of a status but at club level? All it means is you arrived at a time when a shirt was free.... coutinho no 10? means nothing... suarz no 7 meant something... carroll no 9 was a joke.

If alberto was handed a first 11 number when others were not its interesting. YOu'd think toure would have wented it or something but hey... aspas scored no 9 and he's not a no 9.

  13. Reina is number 25 and Migs has taken 22 too.

  14. Not heard anything and there is nothing on the LFC website about Toure but I reckon he will take number four <ok>

maybe so, it'll be out today or tomorrow i expect.

I mean just in the dressing room i think there might be a bit of one upmanship with numbers but really that's about it.

If you look at our line up 1 to 11.

    jones
    Johnson no.4 Agger Enrique
    Alberto Suarez Gerrard
    coutinho Aspas Assiadi

You can see rodgers handed assaidi no 11 last year and thus raised some peoples expectations of a first teamer.... alberto snagged the plum no 6.... will he start? hmmmmm.

reina is no 25 and minger no 22... yet jones inexplicably got no 1 off hodgson...

we have no no 12 cos pacheco has that even though its not on the website.....

all in all the first team aint far off the 1 to 11 other than 3 guys who should have been given different jerseys.

I think personally fans will by more aspas no 9 shirts than they would aspas no 17 won't they? It sells shirts too!

  16. I don't think shirt numbers matter too much either. As you said, it probably means more to fans although certain players will gain confidence from having a 1-11 number too <ok>

    Sturridge 9 would sell better.

I think players get emotionally attached to numbers and it also becomes like a trade mark for them. Like Beckham and Ronaldo 7.

    Mignolet wore 22 at Sunderland.
Reina sees 25 as his lucky number.
    Allen was 24 at Swansea.
Carragher got attached to number 23.

There is also some hero tributing to. Players like there boy hood hero's numbers.

  18. Carragher has said that he has no attachment to the actual number, it was more a case of he wasn't bothered and just stuck with his initial number. Obviously, his branding is associated to it now.

I would agree a sturridge no 9 would sell well if he delivers this year... it would have been a big dig and probably would have cost us if we'd took 9 off carroll.

I agree about trade marks for sure. then again gerrard switched from 16 to no 8 there and that was maybe him taking on the big role... when he demanded no 4 for england he was saying clearly he was the big dog. I guess it depends on the player and what's available... i remember shearer getting 9 off ferdinand at newkie and it ruined their squad... <laugh> ferdinand no 99 didn't last long and neither did newcastle's title aspirations. ego ego ego

Shearer offered Owen his number 9 because of its traditional value to Newcastle but Owen insisted he wanted number 10.

Rooney changed numbers for both United and England. He grabbed number 10 as soon as Owen definately was off the scene.
