“While we don’t expect to reach the record attendance levels of 2011 and 2012, we are anticipating another big crowd here at Silverstone this weekend. Ticket sales were slower than usual during the initial sales period, but we have seen a significant upturn in interest and buying patterns since F1 returned to Europe. This, coupled with an improvement in the weather and a promising forecast for the weekend, has prompted us to put measures in place to sell tickets to fans deciding to turn up on the day. This weekend’s attendance looks set to be one of our biggest in recent years.”
'On the day’ tickets will be available to purchase at Gate 1. Parking will also be available for fans driving to the circuit, costing £20 per car on Friday, £30 per car on Saturday and £60 per car on Sunday.

It appears ticket sales for the British GP are not selling as hoped, the above is an extract directly off the Silverstone website.

I decided not to attend the British GP even before the 1013 season had begun, my reason being I don't like the overly restrictive tyre management style of 'racing' I don't need gimmicks to keep me interested, I also wont spend my money to watch drivers not being able to drive to the limit of their capability.

I hold Pirrelli in high regard having used their road tyres for many years now and believe they have been duped into providing a product that is not fit for purpose by a cynical and divisive marketing strategy which has backfired, it seems a considerable number people are not as stupid as Ecclestone may like to think and don't want a fake product.

Is it a declining interest in F1, the crappy economy or a combination of both?

Possibly because this weekend is populated with 2 other major events in the country.

Classic FM in the park.. or something :)

I may have been tempted to go this year but since chance has put me very close to to Budapest during the GP I've decided to go there instead. It should be noted though that my 3 day GA ticket for Hungary is only a few pounds more than a Sunday parking pass at Silverstone alone!!!

Glastonbury. I'm sure these 2 events take up potential ticket buyers. Unfortunately I couldn't go as I have to save for a wedding. You know.. that old chestnut

Crappy economy, you can see it in the fact that other things like festivals are reporting falls in ticket sales as well.

As for the tyres, fine, let's let a company make the most durable tyres available - I still reckon it'll end up with a lot of races being like Bahrain 2010 - but we need a closer relationship between the teams and the tyre companies and we need rid of Todt as FIA President a hell of a lot more urgently.

The races last year that were pretty much one stops were the most boring. The tyres are not the problem. It just seems F1 is not very well promoted this year. Bernie is not doing his job

Congratulations Bando, well I would say introducing your new wife into the wonderful world of F1 is a great idea, and taking her to a GP as part of your honeymoon is the best wedding present she could wish for, she will love you for ever.

She has been with me to a race twice before and enjoyed it which is a big plus. She's not so bothered when it's on tv though and usually falls asleep which is also a plus

Well Bando, judging by the chaos at the Silverstone fiasco today, the tyres are exactly the problem.
