So the first pre-season games are being played tomorrow and Mad Dog has announced the line-ups. Every player will play at least 45 minutes with some playing 90. First team members, development players and the Under 18 scholars are also playing tomorrow. However there seems to be no room for Jack Payne, Tommy Forecast and Deon Burton. Strange seeming as both Payne and Forecast have been at training unless they are moving on. Only Mad Dog really knows. Anyways here's the teams: Vs Faversham First Half: Nelson, Fish, Staunton, Davies, Muggleton, Hare, Butcher, Dack, Grant, Kedwell, Millbank. Vs Faversham Second half: Nalder, Emptage, Bent, Barrett, Carter, Gregory, Hendrick, Lee, Haysman, Birchall, Miller. Vs Ashford First Half: Gowan, Parter, Legge, Frieter, Martin, Linganzi, Blanchard, Allen, Weston, Nyafli, Derry. Vs Ashford Second Half: Gowan, Romeo, McKain, Dickinson, Webster, Hessenthaler, Cundle, Leonard, Whelpdale, Sellens, Nyafli. On a personal note, I want to say good luck to Callum Emptage who was a couple of years below me at my school!
"Strange seeming as both Payne and Forecast have been at training unless they are moving on." My thought as well when I read the report. With Dwight Gayle apparently heading to Crystal Palace for a substantial transfer fee this would give Posh the funds to meet the Gills valuation of Payne, unless he has an injury that is keeping him from playing? He did very well for Posh when on loan and Darren Ferguson has openly stated Payne is his number one target.
I think Payne would go to a championship side as opposed to another L1 team, no disrespect to Peterboro' but I had the impression that they have been treading water in the Championship for a few seasons now without really stepping up to the next level and Payne can play at a higher level
Sounds like a good start to the preseason friendlies with a 4-2 away win against Faversham and a 2-1 win for the Gills X1 at Ashford. 650 attendance at Faversham. Not bad considering two games at the same time. Speculation on twitter of a possible new signing on Monday. I missed it but did anyone see Martin Allen on Sky Sports, purely assumption on my part that is where the rumour is generating from?
My great nephew Connor Hendricks made his debut today, played right midfield in the second half of the match at Faversham, read on another site he did ok would appreciate any other info on how he played.
I went to the game .. He fitted in rather well with the first team players . E.G lee , Gregory and birchall .
Can I ask how Callum played at Right back? I read that he got an assist for Birchall but other than that I don't know much.
I went to the game and was really impressed with Hare in the first half and 2nd half performances by rb,rm,and the 2 strikers, bit more mobile, made all the difference.
Good to hear a lot about Hare, he is a player that I rate a lot from seeing him last year as I feel he is a good player who can play Centre back and central midfield like Frampton could do. Hopefully we will see him in the first team at one point in the coming season.
I went to the Faversham match (with Throwoff) TBH I get very confused with all the trial players and even some of our young ones but we seemed to be playing in exactly the manner you would expect in a pre season. Throwoff may be able to comment on the game much better that me as he can see better than me and can remember who all the players are!! Birchall looked sharp! Oh and the beer was lovely What a shame we can't sit (or stand) with a beer at our ground! Roy
Good to hear Birchill looked sharp. I'm still hopeful that he can do the business for us. But everyone else seems to have written him off long ago. I think he could be a bit of a secret weapon if he can get a bit of confidence. Bit like signing a 20 goal a season striker for nothing.
