So the championship is over by the looks of it. Ferrari and Lotus have went miles backwards and the next challenger to the Red Bull's are the FI. If they don't get a podium tomorrow they've really underperformed. There's literally no chance for anything other than a RB 1-2 tomorrow.
Already discrediting di Resta. please log in to view this image Mercedes have looked pretty good on long runs. Obviously it's hotter tomorrow and that could hinder them, but if they can keep their tyres in the operating window they're favourites for victory. It's not really possible to tell because they haven't run in the conditions forecasted for tomorrow. Definitely looks like Red Bull's titles though. Ferrari and Lotus should've been stronger here.
The race hasn't been run and already the result is decided? I wouldn't bet on those at the front being there at the end of the race tbh, weather plays a massive role in how these tyres and the cars perform, heat is going to play into the hands of the Ferrari's and lotus', whilst hurting the RBR and Mercedes. Where FI & STR end up is anybodies guess, ahead of the Mclarens though, who look awful considering who they are.
I need a Webber win tomorrow or I'll be cap-in-and to the nearest loan-shark for the not606 gambling game.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/108424 Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Unlucky for Paul Wonder if this will reignite the debate about "exclusion from qualifying" being an unsuitable penalty? EDIT: Chilton's not last, here comes the unstoppable comeback
Seems McLaren have conceded defeat. A lot of reports that Whitmarsh has said that focus will switch to 2014. Probably the first smart decision they've made in a while. As clear a lost cause as it could be.
Should have stuck with the 2012 car... Doing so much development on this heap seemed like an exercise in futility.
They'd probably still do better if the brought it back now. Even if it's now slower, at least they'd have a clue how to develop it. Every update they've brought to the '28 has either failed altogether or just maintained the status quo.
Gutting for di Resta, typical that they'd make an error like that when he gets such a good result. James Allen's strategy report says fuel effect at Silverstone is 0.38s for 10kg of fuel, which equates to about 6/100ths, so he'd have gained one place for it. I think it is a suitable penalty though. It's harsh, but they have no choice really, if they let him off because it's only 1.5kg every team would weight their car to be 1.5kg underweight, and then we'd say how unlucky it is when someone gets penalised for being 2kg underweight.
Let's face it... It can't be any worse. McLaren just amaze me sometimes. They were the class of the field by the end of 2012. They are hemorrhaging personnel and hardly replacing them with the cream of the crop and sponsors have left in droves. It feels like Williams all over again.
This season is becoming a giant fix in Mercedes favour. First they get away with cheating, now they get the tyres picked that suit their car. I pity Lotus and Ferrari, they're getting screwed badly.
