The French got rid of every semblence of royalty. Last time I checked they were doing pretty well out of the whole tourism thing. Guess what, big Royal buildings like the Bastille etc. still bring in large numbers of visitors without the need for a miserly family of German descent to fill them

France is the most popular tourist destination in the world and as Jacky says, they seem to be doing ok without a Monarchy.
