If Chelsea and City are FFP compliant, do you really think we have anything to worry about after a tiny loss and(hopefully) signing a couple of new players? As others have said, there has been money available since selling Modric. If there wasn't we wouldn't have been working up to the last minute to bring in Moutinho last summer for supposedly around £24mill. This was further proved when our £16mill Damiao transfer fell apart at the last minute in the January window. I imagine the main idea behind it is offsetting against the significant advantages Bale gives us. Bale might be mocked by away fans in England but abroad he's much admired and puts us on the map which boosts us off the pitch. So by signing Villa, in particular, we send a further message that will be heard around the World and can only boost our value to sponsors. Bale's value is another thing we can offset on, if we don't get into the top 4 next season he's gone and if we do we cover our spending from this summer. Easy, peasy
We've made about £30m in profit on transfers over the past two seasons, so I think that we can afford to make a bit of a loss on them this season. We'll also move some of our players on, which will offset that somewhat. Gallas and Bentley have already been taken off the wage bill and I'd expect some other big earners to follow them. Gomes would probably be at the head of that queue.
Didn't Arsenal try and sign him last summer? He's a man of impeccable taste, that's for sure Apparently Evra might leave if Baines goes to United. What a great signing he'd be ... I can see him going to a retirement league or costing too much though, unfortunately.
As far as I'm aware, the fee has already been agreed with the club. So, it looks like the coach is whistling in the dark...
Paulinho is done according to so many sources now. So much so, that he's already been told he'll be wearing the No8 shirt. it seems far too advanced and public to not be a done deal. apparently he'll be having a medical in brazil when the confed's end.
Parker's going then? At this rate our he won't even have a shirt to hold up when we sign him as we haven't got one Damiao might be going to Soton Nothing against Soton or Damiao but I'm past caring now. If we signed him it would probably be a bit of anti-climax and I want shiny new signings.
The rumours about our shirt deal have suggested a return to Hewlett Packard, bizarrely. At least the colour scheme's right.
apparently QPR and palace have made offers. yeah, i saw this the other day. Apparently HP have bought Aurasma, or something like that. rumours also suggest that these are to be next seasons kits: please log in to view this image The white would look really smart with the blue "HP" logo on the front, and the blue kit will look amazing if the logo is white. The laces are an interesting choice. I think I like them, it's been a while since we've seen a kit like that.
Don't like the laces and isn't that the signature of the new Puma kits. Hope they're not real. Edit: please log in to view this image
Personally, I don't like to celebrate the signing of a player until it's a done deal and officially announced by our club, there are so many things that can happen between an 'agreement' and putting pen to paper.
i'm the same as piskie, but there's a point that transfers get to, where it is almost certain. take vertonghen last year - once he announced that he's chosen "his club", everyone knew he'd be joining us, despite that 2 week spell where spurs and ajax couldn't agree over a minor detail.
we are actively trying to get Deulofeu on loan from Barca, according to respected people on twitter. It also appears that we're now v.serious about this Henrikh mysihsxlnsvv from Shakhtar Donetsk too.
Obviously, nothing is done until it's signed, but this smacks of wishful thinking by the Corinthians manager - and you goners!...
Think some media outlets suggested the potential loan for Deulofeu before twits. Ridiculously talented youngster and while having him here would be exciting to watch, I've never liked the idea of grooming and improving another club's prospect. Deulofeu, in my opinion, has the opinion to play at the highest level, I've seen a couple of Barca B games and he looks like a typical Barca product and more but if we're to loan him, I'd want a pre-agreed deal where we can sign him for a certain amount if he impresses.
I'd agree that ideally we'd have the option to buy but if it helps us fill a gap in the squad cheaply for a year so we can get quality in permanently elsewhere then it can be still very useful.
LOL, Spurs Transfer policy = Look at who Liverpool are trying to sign and then try to get in on the action.
