Don't think Paolo will sack off the defence, they'll be some sort of balance. He's far too anal to neglect one area.
Possession football. Quick passing, splitting the other team apart. Tippy tappy football. They can't score if they don't have the ball. We need good strikers who can make space, exploit the gaps and turn off the shoulder of defenders. Need midfielders who can spot a pass, as thats something we've been missing in recent years.
Passing the ball to a team mate helps you survive .Thats something we seem to have been lacking at safc over the years .
He's an Italian and despite his attack minded beliefs, the art of defence is ingrained into the Azzurri. Sure I think the emphasis is on attacking players and scoring goals/entertaining but this won't be at the expense of a slack or weak defensive unit in any Italians make up.
He seems to be building from the back like all good teams are. I think he's saving the bulk of his kitty for 2 attacking players that will change the dynamic of the team.
See where you are coming from but, survival in PL is easy just get more points than three other teams. Doing anything in the PL is the hard part for about 12/13 of the teams in it. Recall Arsenal winning games 1-0 for a good chunk of one season so scoring shed loads of goals although nice for fans isn't a necessity. As you say only QPR scored less than us but, two other teams who scored more went down. Defence will be a priority for PDC as he saw how bad our defence was last season which is why he seems to be concentrating on defence and midfield in the transfer market. No doubt we will see a couple of strikers linked soon enough though.
Defence wasn't too bad last year, barring a couple of mares. The problem was turniny draws into wins. Eleven clean sheets for a team that finished 17th is remarkable
Absolutely anything would be better than last season. Even if we got/get relegated I cannot see it being for lack of commitment. If they gel quickly, and there is no reason why professional footballers cannot do this, we should be more than OK.
If defence was any good last season mate we wouldn't have finished 17th. Too many mistakes in the last quarter of games and, to be fair allowing teams a 2 goal advantage with about 20 minutes gone in games says our defence was poor. Or did it say they didn't give a toss or simply lacked concentration or the tactics were wrong who knows? All the great teams have built from the back which is why to me anyway it was a strange decision letting Mig go the cash probably swung it if I'm honest mind.
This would be the part where my doubts turn to excitement mate. I know nothing about the players we have brought in so far or reported to have brought in anyway. If we were to bring 2 recognised quality pacy strikers for some decent investment then I will start to believe. Up to that point, forgive me if I remain sceptical about the virtually anonymous signings so far.
The way I'm looking at it mate is they are fairly unknown and will hopefully catch teams on the hop for the first 6/7 games. After that it could be a bit hairy mind as a couple of poor results and it'll be back to he's ****e sack PDC etc. etc. Reckon we will bring in at least 2 CFs as I can see DG going the journey, it just hasn't worked for him.
Big transfers always take time and I think one of our big signings will depend if Sessegnon stays or goes. The two biggies will be a forward and attacking midfielder imo im confidant that Roberge and Diakite are better than Bramble and Killgallon. If what we are hearing about Gin Perruzzi is true he could be the best right back we've had. Add Mendy and im sure we have a stronger defensive unit. Cabral was the main man at Basle and has played Champions League football so I think that one is a real coup. He's going straight into our problem area so PDC has already addressed some massive needs and I don't even think we've really got going in the market yet. Quietly confidant.
