    Can't stand tomatoes.

Cucumber under the cheese (mature cheddar, as others have said) gives it a welcome bit of moisture - and convinces me that what I'm eating is healthy after all. Bit of Worcester on top.

If it's under the cheese it doesn't get cooked.

applewoods smoked with paprika is very nice ,
i like most cheese but red leicester is the most ho-hum of cheese

Im not a massive Mature Cheddar fan on toast, i prefer my cheeses' on different types crackers
topped with things like caramelised onion or pickles mmm

Firstly,i don't want you to think i'm just going with the crowd Tom,but all you get with red leicester,is a vaguely similar texture to cheese, but without the flavour.

Double Gloucester could be your bag i sense. It's not as full on as mat ched, but it does bring something of that fine cheese to the game.

A simple but excellent recipe of mine.

Bread of your own choice,thin,thick,white,brown...oops<grr> but then...

Toast one side crusty, and on the other side, half toast. Halve a clove of garlic, rub it on the half toasted side.

Add your choice of cheese(not red leicester).....grilllll

Bloomer bread, lightly toasted, smear thin layer of English mustard, topped with Mature cheddar, small cubes of Camembert, gratinate under the Salamander, liberal dashes of L&P. Delicious <ok>

fromage sur le pain grillé is available from all French supermarkets. It is a step up on just plain cheese on toast, as its name suggests.

Is it the same as Fromage Frais?

    I've heard of that.

Wouldn't put it on toast though...

It's like Heston Blumthal's head inside here.

Spread some green pesto on top of the cheese... it's absolutely beautiful.

Almost worth spending over eight grand on uni fees simply to discover it.

Baked beans in a pan bring to the boil add grated cheese of your choice or budget and fried bacon strips (Grilled if you want the healthy choice) couple of slices should do it (not smoked)

Stir it all together, fry some black pudding pop your toast stick real butter on it.
Plate it up pour the pan contents onto the toast a stick your black pudding on top and enjoy ;)

    <cheers>

Actually writing "if you want the healthy choice" amid all that is either very funny or rather macabre.

Don't let your GP or life insurance provider see this thread. :emoticon-0145-shake

Try cheese on toast with a shake of the old Worcester dunked in tomato soup.........

For cheeses, Double Gloucester or some of the italian or swiss.
