Loved the sash. Bit of a bitter-sweet with the fact that mine is signed by the entire squad from the final day of the 10/11 season, so I can't wear it.
There might be a very good reason the away top looks better. it appears to retail for between 1.5 and 2x as much as the home top in template form.
Have to say this is a second season in a row I wont be buying the home shirt, this one is even worse than last years effort. Off to find my stash of shirts from the 80's and 90's as it's retro red and white stripes for me for the forthcoming season.
Glad to pay the bet. Still think we have a bad home kit, looks better on though. Love the away strip. Only real problem is the fact that it costs 50 ****ING QUID.
Good and concise article on the new kits and the reaction - "Save Our Gripes" - http://saintscorner.tumblr.com/post/54112170807/save-our-gripes
Good man . My suggestion is Macmillan Cancer Support, and might as well do it by sponsoring one of our very own members - check out this thread: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/217511-Bournemouth-Marathon But yeah apparently the kit looks better in person. Still not getting my £50!
I understand being narked about the lunatics, but "changing identity is as much in Southampton’s tradition as stripes are"? we did it during the first 10 years. and barring a 9 year aberration, we have been in red and white stripes under the same name for 118 years since. give or take a year on any of my numbers. Celtic started in a white shirt before going for vertical stripes. I wonder if they'd be so open.
rsThe home kit seems to grow on you. I don't think than anyone would have complained if this had been a training shirt . Still think we should stick to stripes. I would have to say that the away kit goes look fantastic and the white-v gives an impression of something from the 40's or 50's. I 've got a replica "Roy of the Rovers" shirt that is very much in this style. What I can't believe is the fact that the shirt retails for £50. This is absolutely outrageous. i think that a few years back when they were retailing at about £30 the price seemed too expensive and perhaps only something you would invest in if it really appealed. With the cost increasing so substantially, it has reached a point where the price cannot be at all justified. This is exploitation. Imgaine the grief Rupert would have got if he had charged this? It's strange but there is a replica football shirt company on line who make some really good kits that cost a fraction of this price. In the past I've bought a 60's Saints and the 1893 Saints kit as well as Wanderers and the aforementioned Roy of the Rovers. By and large, these were either presents or something I treated myself to as the retailed at around £35-40 with postage. These seem a bargain compared to this latest effort.
What's odd to me is that whether or not you liked the sash or pinstripes, they were rather bold changes. Which is why it's odd to me that this year they went with the most boring and predictable identikit ever for the home shirt. I might have expected (and quite possibly hated) something way different and controversial, but just using pretty much the stock template with white and red exactly where everyone expected them to be. Ah well. Kind of hard to get too worked up over a kit. If Saints qualify for Europe, then in my mind this was a good kit! I guess this won't be the year that I finally attempt to figure out how to order something from the Saints website is all.
It's so disappointing I am thinking of handing my season ticket to the local Big Issue vendor, and change my allegiance to the other end of the M27, we are going to win nothing in this tatty outfit, let's all follow a team that's at the bottom of the ladder and watch them soar to the heights once more.
SaintDon is right, who wants my season ticket, I don't want to sit near that Fatletiss character anyway!
Has anyone actually bothered to get one and if so is the Saints badge as skew-whiif as it appears in the piccys?
Just realised there is one nice Adidas kit this year. Ajax. [nsfw] please log in to view this image [/nsfw] Why we haven't gone with something similar to that I'll never know. Edit: Put it in NSFW tags just because it's kinda big and I don't want it taking up the whole page or slowing people's browsing.
Now that is a good looking shirt, simple, yet stylish...we could've even had the reverse of that with a broad white middle stripe with black logos and red sides like the 80-85 kit. We might even have 3 stars above OUR badge.....one day!...
Most of us would have been ecstatic if that kit had been revealed at 9am this morning. But unfortunately we are left with the a staid and unrecognisable Saints kit.
