Drove straight into her while she was parked at the petrol station, my first reaction after asking her if she was ok was whiplash claim and she was I can't lie, i said you bloody will woman everybody else does. She has got the details of the driver of the other vehicle, it was a company car and she wants us to settle directly with her and get a price for the repairs. I say bollox to that, get the car in the garage, get a courtesy car and get a claim in, whats the best course of action here lads, said will discuss it tonight
People like you that are pushing up everyone elses insurance premiums. Sorry, but things like this makes my blood boil.
Fair enough mate, reckon we've shelled out something like £40k on insurance since we were 17 and never made a claim, dont really know how to go about it
I agree, we all end up paying. We were recently wacked from behind. Fortunately we had a camping trailer which imploded and stopped the car taking the brunt. Main thing is my 3 kids were ok. You have 2 choices. Submit claim to your own insurers and let they pay and recover from 3rd party or deal with 3rd party directly. We did latter and so long as they use reputable repairer all good and we don't lose our own no claims discount althouugh you still need to disclose when you renew. Repairs to our vehicle were excellent and we were provided with a courtesy car etc. We are stil awaiting cheque for trailer and some damaged gear. We were almost invited to claim for injuries , new kids car seats etc. but they are all fine and I just want what I am due to and nothing more. I wish society had the same values. Anyone watch that programme last night on channel 4 about moral dilemmas. Really good but mixed response. Only 8 out of 50 lost wallets returned. I was gob smacked as I would return anything I found. ps I work in Insurance and the amount of people who say I have paid my premiums for x years so think I am due a payout. Anyway rant over.
My wife was hit from behind last month off somebody presuming she was going to pull out at a Roundabout when she didn't. It knocked her into the roundabout, luckily no one was coming round it at the time. She was in agony for 2 weeks with Whip lash and couldn't even bend down to pick our boys up. She went to a Solicitors last week to put a claim in. The other drivers accepted liability, so we're just waiting to here from Solicitor now to find out how much she's going to get.
Unfortunately I work in the industry mate. The easiest and less stressful way to deal is to use your own insurers. If she is fully comp then they will arrange repairs and hopefully a courtesy car for the duration and they will claim it back off the other fellas insurance. You may have to pay the excess on completion of repairs but if you get an early admission of liability (as it seems you should) then your insurers may waive the excess and claim all the repair costs from the other party. Claiming injury is a whole different ball game and whilst I am against fraudulent claims it keeps me in a job!! For the record I work against the people making claims i.e. the ones pushing up everyone's premiums.
Be careful of people who offer to pay - they often don't! Two mates of mine have been caught out this way in the past.
probably not a good idea to state publicly that your wife was ok, but was still going to claiming for injuries. be carefull
If the car is drivable then only get a replacement car whilst the repair us being carried out - plus you will probably get the repairs done more quickly as they are not raking it in from hire car fees. The hire car fees are what is driving up the cost of a claim and it is every bit as a scandal as the whiplash claims, only as the insurer and car hire company divvy up the profit from the extortionate hire fees then they don't bleat on about this - but if Joe Public benefiting from a whiplash claim then they whinge on about it. As SAFCDRUM advises, go via your insurer - that is what you pay your premiums for plus you will have come back if the repairs are shoddy.
Right so best thing to do is ring the insurance company, forget any potential whiplash claim and take it from there, the car is drivable just drivers side rear wing is bashed in
This is good advice. Use your insurance company. If you have a high no claims then it`s time they earned your premiums. If they are claiming everything back from the other side there should be no payment of excess due from you. Repairs tend to be quicker as hire cars are usually not taken care of and the shorter time you have it, the longer it will last, and better for them. If the Mrs is ok then personally I wouldn`t go down the injury route. All it will do is drag things out, medicals etc. Not worth the hassle imo but, it`s up to you/her. That`s way I see it mate and pleased the boss is unhurt.
Genuinely however, it is not uncommon for aches and pains to commence hours after the impact once the shock has died down. Not advocating false claims just saying.
It's not just dishonest people that are to blame for rising premiums. It's the insurance companies and agents too. We had someone drive into our car whilst it was parked. The woman owned up and we put it through the insurance because she'd done a fair amount of damage to our car. If it had of been light damage I'd have let her just pay up. Our insurance company offered me all sorts of optional things to bump the claim up. Our car is a 4x4 so they offered a premium 4x4 as a courtesy car. I said all I needed was something roadworthy that I could get to work and back in, but they delivered another 4x4 anyway. They must have phoned me up a dozen times asking if I'd had any injuries they could claim for, and I explained each time that we weren't in the car when it was hit. They also asked repeatedly if there was anything else in the car that was damaged etc. I presume that they are some sort of percentage commission when handling the claim. I didn't renew with them next time the insurance was due, as I'd rather be with someone that doesn't inflate their claims. It's all of us that ends up paying for it in the end.
