Where did you stay in St Lucia 9's ?? I'm going in August (staying at the Smugglers Cove). Heard its a long journey from the airport to the resort (90mins drive ??) so of course looking forward to that with 3 tired kids and 1 tired Mrs in tow
I seriously suggest you take some travel sickness pills with you mate. One of my boys was sick just as we got to our hotel which was not the kind of tip the cab was looking for!! Very windy roads there but lovey when you get there!
Thanks for the advice mate, will definately tell the Mrs to get some pills for the kids. You are the second person to tell me that so I've no doubt it's good advice. I did look at getting a helicopter transfer but worked out a bit too expensive and then we would still have to get a cab from the other airport plus still wait for 2 hours at the resort for the luggage to turn up, so we decided not really worth it. Thanks again mate.
Mine London...so lucky to have been born/study there Barcelona..Gaudi Amsterdam....a small village in a city Lisbon....culture and friendliness Paris ...culture, food, wine Dublin....the people These selections all seem a bit parochial, but in fact I do travel quite a bit...but I suppose as Dorothy said "There is no place like home" so the other way.... The pits....easy Fort Worth (no soul, no people),Sheffield (scary with a capital SCARY), Bangalore and Niarobi (the poverty is too overwhelming), Adelaide (too quiet), Santa Monica (too WestCoast, in your face) Places I need to explore more ...............Rome, been a couple of times for work, haven't quite had the time to appreciate it. Chicago more to it than meets the eye Never been to Sydney wanna go soon
I love this board - detailed advice on hotel transfers needed? We got it. Nines, I know I said everywhere has something worth seeing or experiencing, but very much doubt Toronto and Calgary would get on my bucket list - I'm guessing you have mates in those places. Having said that some good bars in Toronto including the biggest sports bar I have ever been in, and the micro brewery district is fun. Other places pretty low down my list Medan and Padang in Sumatra, quite possibly the dirtiest cities on earth (but Mumbai and Kolkata are brilliant, but equally dirty), multiple mid West cities in the USA, identikit, though the people are always friendly. I've an idea for another thread.......
Finglas.....other than walking the dog a couple of times my day was spent slaving over a hot computer....just a normal working day.....should have given me a call and we could have met up for lunch... There is a book on sale in Tramore about the railway called the 5 minute bell and it charts its history form the time it was built until 1960 when it closed for good.....i dare say your great grandfather gets a mention, what was his name and i'll look it up, we have the book at home. Its sad that the railway closed it could have been a huge tourist/enthusiast money spinner now but lack of foresight in the 60's.....the bus is just soulless....
Naples - The pizza is great and the people are very nice, even managed to pull a woman who spoke no english by using an interpreter. Philadelphia - Flyers Lisdoonvarna - 1 shop, 10+ pubs and the women are um nice, especially in September. Not a village but well worth a visit. Hong Kong - unique London - there would be no QPR without it.
Tough one this... Paris - have loved living here, it's beautiful, easy to live in, and the food is amazing. London - home for 24 years, family, friends, QPR, fish and chips...what's not to love? Durban - beautiful beaches, amazing weather and surfing...plus no jet leg to get there. Melbourne - will never forget sitting watching the tennis, in the sun all day, then relaxing by the river at night. Beautiful place. LA - so much to do, In'n'Out burgers, beaches and easy distance from some amazing places (Yosemite, Grand Canyon, etc...)
Especially for Flyer, Christy Moore plays Lisdoovarna
Mongkok is the most densely populated area in the world. It's a fascinating place but not strictly a City.
Why MongKok in particular 4String? I haven't been there for many years, certainly lively, earthy and 'real', but not sure if I would highlight it . Very curious to know....
I agree. Interesting place. I seem to recall we did a thread once where we managed to find quite a few of us who had lived there over the years. Do you remember that SB?
I do mate, the 'Old China Hands" thread, surprising number of us were there at some time, WBA definitely one of them. I used to buy electrical equipment in MongKok - cameras, stereos etc, bit cheaper than the touristy bits of the Kowloon, if you enjoy haggling.
haha, the interpreter was a fatty so got rid of her as soon as things were sorted. Naples is a strange place, the morals are like that of the 50s, you cant be alone with a girl, even if youre in your 20s.
We used to joke about 'Eau d'Mongkok' - a heady mix of backed up sewers, sweat, dripping air conditioning and rotting durians! Used to frequent the area to get my bike serviced at Flying Ball Bikes opposite the snake restaurant but never hung around much.
Just seen this?? Are you sure Beth?? My adopted city is the greenest in England, backs onto the Peaks and has a great student / pub / club vibe? You must have toured the wrong parts!
