Theres been a lot of media speculation about Celtic possibly making a move to loan Given for the 2011/12 season as well as a few quotes from the man himself saying he would consider a move to the Celtic.

A lot of people think Man City won't be prepared to loan him out and would rather get him off their books but think about it; why would Man City sell a top keeper to an English Premier League rival? They don't need the money. I think that if Celtic can find a way to pay a percentage of his wages and a token loan fee we could see him up here in the new season.

We've already seen how important McGregor has been for Rangers for the last season or two.

Come on Dermot, make this happen!!!

Would love to see Given between the sticks at Celtic Park! He's far too good to be sat on the bench, and he won't get in ahead of Hart for City I don't think.

It's definitely an area we need to strengthen, and he would fit the bill nicely. Only major concern being he is a bit of a dracula regarding crosses, so as long as the likes of Glenda Loovens isn't in the side, and we have someone in there who can attack a high ball, we should do fine.

another Irelsnd international thinking he can just stroll into the Celtic team at the end of his career. Very respectful <ok>

He is 35 - young for a keeper - your team.....sorry rangers have a 40 year old outfield player ffs

look at the performances of Van Der Sar this year at 40 also.

we could still get a good 5 years out of Given. And in my opinion Shay given has been the best keeper the EPL has ever had (others have had a good season or two - but Given has been consitently very good since joining Newcastle in 1997 meaning that for 13 years on the trot he was always in the top 3 keepers EVERY season

He would be great at Celtic. Irish or not

What is a "pilgremage"?

Mrs Given is from Scotland. He haas always said that is where he is going to end up.
I have always liked Given and I would in no way be disappointed if he came to us, however I am not so sure he fits our business model.
Kieron Westwood is a great keeper that I think does fit the bill for us.

It is a position that needs to be filled and I wouldn't be upset with either

Do they presume they'd walk into the team though? If they are Celtic fans -as many irish are then whats wrong with declaring they'd one day love to play for Celtic?? doesnt mean they expect to get picked though

And those that you no doubt refer to Keane x 2 and Given woudl walk into the Celtic team as not only are they irish and have an affection for Celtic - but they are (or have been) very very talented

No different than many an NI player saying they'd one day play for Rangers (except for the fact most NI players are ****e)

Players with an afinity to a club sometimes say they would like to play there one day, it happens at many clubs, Rino gattoso at Rangers for example.

Celtic have a sizeable Irish following so it stands to reason that this will be the case.
