Not even one week into the summer break and all hell has broken loose due to the shenanigans of a bloody agent suggesting that the only way Barton will get a new contract is if the club is sold.

We’ve been urged to buy the club ‘a la Barca’ by a man whose sole objective is to get as much money for his client and earn a massive wodge of cash for his minimal efforts.

Why have we fallen for this? Why the outrage when we’ve only heard one side of a story from a type of person we usually treat with contempt; an agent?

McKay must think he’s Bob Crowe; urging us to rebel and protest because one of his clients is facing issues trying to agree a new deal. The tactics seem the same. Cause or threaten the maximum amount of disruption to force his way and damned be the consequences of the actions used to get it.

Sorry McKay but we are not a union. We are a bunch of football supporters who want to pay our fees and watch our team play a game of football. It’s not our livelihoods at threat here but if you persist in vociferously pursuing that WE buy the club it will be our livelihoods on the line.

    Let’s review:

The first thing this arrogant agent did was run to the media platform and blurt out his ills and woes for all to see and stir up a colossal amount of confusion, contempt and chagrin.

Then we hear that Steve Wraith; a man who befriends the stars and makes himself available to the media at a drop of a hat (to get his name in the limelight so he can sell his Kray book) re-enforces the opinion of McKay that the only way to progress is to buy the club. He says it was also the opinion of Mr Barton.

We’ve been here before. It didn’t work that time and why will it work now?

We are in the midst of a massive recession where disposable family income is squeezed to the extent that many cannot afford the luxuries they once did.

Less than one week in and we’re in a state of flux that the media will devour.

We need to show unity if we want to attract quality players that will improve the squad.

A 'stand off' of this magnitude will only cause harm.

Tell McKay that you don’t share his view at present.

We can’t afford to buy the club at the moment and we can ill afford to have the club in a state where it’s viewed as a bad place to play.

One week in and we could be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Lets have some patience and see what unfolds.

Couldn't agree more OT! The only thing that is going to suffer here is Newcastle United and the only people will be us fans!

Which players are going to look at the chaos of another 'bouycott' and choose us, ESPECIALLY if we're going after potential champions league players! What kind of message does it send out!

Mckay is certainly mischief making, I wonder if he has the approval of his client, to me he has his own interests at heart. I'm sure there will be one or two players, and it will be one or two who don't use agents, and no doubt they will probably just have a solicitor and an accountant.
Season 08/09 Premier clubs paid £70.6m in agents fees, why are the clubs paying, surely that should be down to the client. To be honest I'm not sure how it all works but I think agents do seem to be very good at making waves and causing instability.
Good article by the way OT, sorry can't rep you rep failure.

Isn't it funny how neither Barton or his agent were suggesting that the club needed a change of ownership so long as they thought a new deal was a possibility, but within 24 hours of negotiations breaking down it is suddenly in "our" interests to buy the club! I seriously doubt that they would have ever come out with that comment had they got the deal they wanted.

This is emotional manipulation of the first order and Barton has gone way down in my estimation as a result of it. The reaction he and his agent want is designed to de-stabilise the club and whilst they hope it might lead to a new contract for Barton they don't seem to care about the other ramifications.

Well unlike McCay and Barton we have to take the big picture into account and I for one am not going to start dragging the club back into the media searchlights, subjecting it to negative press as a result, by fighting their cause for them.

<applause> Brilliant OT, no player(especially one that is lucky to still be at the club) is bigger than Newcastle United.

    Exactly.

It seems as if the fans are being played to gain McKay his best interests and seemingly Barton is going along for the ride.

Your club is a joke - Joke owner & joke Manager. What exactly is Pardew - he looks like a goat and has all the management skills of one :). A lot of fans of other clubs used to like Newcastle due to the fans but with the state the club is in now and the way it treated C Houghton most fans now hope you're relegated next season :emoticon-0116-evilg

Well said OT, agents are the most unnecessary and detrimental people in and to football. Footballers have a basic understanding of finance, they can negotiate a deal without demanding a million pounds for their agent to sit there and cause trouble in negotiations and flaunt them to other clubs.

    Reputation for you sir!

I take Willie McKay with a pinch of salt. He's just doing his job. Nobody actually takes him seriously. There is actually a train of thought in business circles that recent events (10 year season tickets etc), that the club is being prepared for sale by Ashley. I find this very hard to believe in the current climate. I don't think he wants it long term but he'll be waiting for any upturn in the market before he does.

They should give Barton the contract he has asked for in my opinion. Given it's a pay cut I'd say that is fair enough. I don't think it's about money though. It matters not, we just have to accept what the board decides to do. Throwing toys out of the pram and marching down to the ground will do jack! I do wish the board would clarify the Barton situation instead of it running along in the background with his Twitter account being the best source of information. I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. They were exposed a long time ago as a bunch of liars. But equally so was Willie McKay!! Barton is the only one who has come out with any credit though he'd do well to abandon twitter and save it for a book!

The likes of Willie Mckay and agents are just parasites and leechs on the game, they realise how much money is involved, so try to get as much as they can, even though they have nothing to do with football, and only skill is to use the phone and talk bullcrap.

I don't think in all serious that Mckay by suggesting we buy the club that it would ever happen in a million years, Premier league clubs are just to unattainable unless your basically a billionaire theses days, and he was merely trying to put pressure on Ashley by getting fans on his side........

Its a discrace how you get 13 year old lads in the academies with agents now hoping to cash in, in the future

    However great thread Overseas toon!
