... which all sounds quite impressive but for the fact that it ignores that we had one of the worse chances conversion rates in the division ... often totally dominating games yet not even hitting the target with chances never mind scoring ... and Nugent was one of the worst culprits in that ...

Do you have these statistics to hand? I wouldn't mind studying those.

    Something strange I noticed earlier...

The top scorer for both Cardiff and Hull last season finished on 9... Didn't even reach double figures.

Compare this to Nugent's 16, and even Knocky finished on 9 himself.

Our problem did not lie on our lack of goals, so arguing whether Nugent should have converted more of his chances seems kind of moot.

Not to hand because that would make me a nerd ... but you can always go back and look at the BEEB match reports - try Cardiff at home as a prime example ...

I assumed since you were referring to stats in your argument as if they were facts you must have them to hand. My mistake.

I'm sure every team could go back and look at stats in individual games and think what could have been, and every fan thinks they should have taken a lot more chances. Even our Hull buddies would say as much if they're honest, and they got promoted.

And don't be silly, you only qualify as a nerd (which isn't a bad thing in my experience by the way) If you spent all day on internet forums...

.. nice platitudes but to no avail ... we had games where our conversion was less than 1 in 15 chances ... because it did interest me (frustrate me) at the time I did spend some time comparing and contrasting ... an found none of our main rivals had anything as bad ... will look to find some comparables for you when I get a mo ...

If David Nugent converted at the same rate as Kevin Phillips I suspect he might have scored over 30 goals last season LOL

Quite possible. But obviously Phillips has different problems, ie not being able to play 90 minutes every game, every week. Therefore, he won't get the same number of chance to waste as Nugent, if you get my meaning. Also, he doesn't have to try and put the ball in the next after slogging his guts out for 80-75 minutes, like we expect Nugent to do.

Like I said, at the start of the season, all strikers have the same opportunity to get into the top ten. Both Wood and Nugent managed it. I won't go as far to say we can't ask for more, but we'd be silly to expect it.
