According to NUFC.com we have placed an offer in excess of £10million for an unidentified striker. There has certainly been an increased level of newspaper speculation on Newcastle bids for strikers of the past few days. We really need to get someone good in to lighten the mood and inject a bit of positivity towards next season.

The names NUFC.com suggest as possibilities are: Gignac, Gameiro, Gomis, Aubameyang and Bony.

They also suggest that Shola might be off to a team in the United Arab Emirates.

I'd be happy with Gameiro and delighted with Aubameyang or Bony. We do need two really.

Two would be nice but we can, and I think will have to, get by with Newby, Cisse and Campbell, perhaps with HBA playing a quasi supporting striker role from time to time

Gomis, Gameiro and Gignac are just about worth £10m collectively, so quite how they come up with those names is beyond me. In addition, there's no way we'll be paying £10m for players who will be 28 next season, or have we suddenly become extremely affluent and ambitious?!

Aubameyang may be right, we've been offering that much for him for months, so it would be nothing new. Bony's possible because of his age. I'd suggest Brown Ideye, but don't think he'd quite cost £10m either.

I really hope we don't go for this lad, purely based on his appearences at confederations cup but the guy couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo from what I've seen of him.

If this story is true then I don't blame the club for a change, however we need to move on quick and have to take it on the chin we might need to spend a few quid more on our targets as when we go down it will cost a hell of a lot more in lost revenue !!!

Thought PEA was being targeted by Europe's elite this summer? Him and Bony would surely cost more than £10M.

Exactly. Hence it makes you wonder why we're bothering with bids that will obviously be rejected, only to then say that the club 'won't be drawn into a bidding war'. The more suspicious among us may question if it's all part of the usual plan - make it look like we tried to sign players but could never quite get them over the line. Bet Pardew can't wait to roll that line out again.

I think Ashley realises how close he came to seeing his investment devalued last year. I think we will see a senior striker and a Centre Back of some description this window

Why does everyone latch onto a striker and think we should bid silly amounts of money for them just to land them? We are not in the business of paying silly money for players, and I agree with that approach.

I can't say I've seen this Aubameyang or Bony play, and being based in the UK as I'm sure most of you are, I doubt you have either. Aubameyang's record last season does look impressive, but we need to have a limit on what we spend. 18m Euros (if correctly reported) is a high enough limit for me.

That's fair enough, but the club has clearly identified these players as 'targets'. They have a set number of 'targets'. If they cannot get these 'targets', they don't seem to be in the business of signing anyone at all. And if we don't sign a striker, we'll be in deep **** next season. Hence my concerns if we miss out on the players the club have decided to pursue.

The Aubameyang transfer will never happen because when Kinnear calls his current club and asks how much they want for Ob-me-gang they won't know who he is talking about and put the phone down thinking it's a prank call.

Bony's agent has confirmed he's joined Swansea City for around £10.2m, signing a 5-year deal...

    Of course he is.

He was eminently attainable it seems. We just couldn't be bothered. We prefer to bid £10m+ knowing full well it wouldn't be accepted.

MA won't be happy. NUFCs greatest minds are going to have to come up with another 'big' name to link with us. Gotta fuel the fake 'bidding war' procrastinating for another 2 months yet.

    This is simply crazy...

How on Earth can we bid £10m for someone when we don't even know who he is?

Surely if we don't even have his identity details, how do we know which club he plays for?

Who do we send the money to?

This stinks of Mike Ashley not 'doing his homework' all over again - just like when he bought the club in the first place.

    Some people just never learn.
