We're apparently in talks with Velez regarding his transfer. The free agent thing is a load of bullshit, he still has 3 years left on his contract. Velez are asking for 12M but Arsene is only willing to pay 10M.

I think we'll eventually agree a deal and sign him.

Looks like we're closing in on Samba as well.

Please please please please please please no. We should not waste money on the Heskey of defenders.

Bit of a simplification but if the issue is 2 million then he is being stupidly stubborn. Does anyone know anything about said player? Anyone seen him play?

    Complete agree. Samba is atrocious.

As for Alvarez, I've seen him play in the Copa Libertadores a few times. He's like a taller version of Di Maria. He's very strong, tricky and fast. He's a great dribbler as well. I've only seen him play twice, so I can't judge him based on two games, but he seems like a decent player.

If Alvarez is actually as good as Di Maria then I would love to have him, he is an exceptional player.

I don't really get the feeling that we will actually sign this guy though, not enough talk about him and we rarely sign players from south america.

And its not following in Wengers usual trick of buying a player NO ONE has ever heard of! Would love to see what he could do in the PL though

As for samba, just no dear god please.

I wouldn't mind Samba to play a few times every season against the likes of Stoke and Blackburn, his gigantism (although I'm actually the same size as him, maybe Arsene could sign me for £20,000 p/w!!) would help with the aerial bombardment and it's not as though they have any quick strikers. Also, he isn't as slow as a lot of people like to make out.

However, I don't feel he is good enough for 1st choice, but if Squillaci were to leave and Samba come in with Bartley staying (to cover for Carling cup games, maybe), bearing in mind that we should be cautious with playing Vermaelen this coming season after so long out (like we did with Djourou for the first half of the season when he was mint, and not the second half when he went abit **** and played every game), then I would be fairly happy.

Alvarez sounds great. If he's free, get him. If he's under 8m, get him. If he's going to cost 12m and start playing Internationals, he could end up with Vela Fever and I'd be much more skeptical.

I trust the Arsenal scouts tho. I mean, they've never made a mistake signing a South American have they!?
