That's right. Our 18 year old, 7th choice goalie has been called up the Argentine senior squad. Unlike Shea, this guy really does have the potential to be world class. Well done Emiliano. http://younggunsblog.co.uk/2011/05/martinez-joins-senior-argentine-squad
Fair do's to the lad, but I doubt he'll feature. One for the future, definitely, maybe he could be the first good Argentine keeper for ages!
I doubt it too. After all, Shea was called up to the England squad merely to make up the numbers. Still, it means that he's being noticed and it can't hurt him practising against the likes of Tevez and Messi. He's had a stellar reserve season and it won't be long before he's rising through the ranks I feel.
Shea I believe was only training as well, I think he turned up at London Colney and found out then that England were training there for a day
Yeah. But that's a little different from receiving the call from Argentina. I don't rate Shea to be honest. Martinez is being talked about in the same tones as Szczesny was so it'll be interesting.
fantastic news. any kind of experience like this will be fantastic for the lad. the best of luck to him. it's a big step up from reserve football, but even the training will be great - being around those at the top of the game on a daily basis should hopefully inspire him.
I get the feeling that if he actually had the potential to be world class then we would be seeing a lot more of him.
Not at 18, that's very young for a keeper; even Casillas and De gea had to wait til they were 19, and Cech wasn't at a big club til he was 21. He has got some good reviews and seems to be pretty good, but bear in mind that: 1.) Argentina don't have a history of producing good keepers 2.) It's only a friendly 3.) He was only used as emergency back-up and 4.) Is unlikely to feature. Still, a very good achievement for the lad and hope he does come on as some on YG seem to think he will.
