I'm still 100% on the fence.

No one knows other than Jose, his agent and the board.

    Oh, and Phil Thompson apparently...

    ^ ^ exactly (@ Aldridge Prior)

no-one knows for sure. Everyone has their own opinion and is speculating while the only people who know for sure are Enrique, his advisors and hopefully Pardew!

Mate I don't think Pardew knows what day it is but no doubt he'll soon deliver a press conference telling us how it's Wednesday and he's been working hard with our scouts after looking at Thursday and Friday. He's set a deadline for Saturday to make it's mind up, it now has until Sunday to decide.

Don't care if he goes, as long as he doesn't go to ****ing Liverpool!

Haha well people were saying there was a meeting with Enrique, his advisors and the club yesterday I think so that's why I said hopefully Pardew knows the score by now. Although I probably read this on cwarr's twitter so it's probably bollocks and they're all still on holiday or something :emoticon-0114-dull:

    Yeah, I'm the same.

Would be a massive coup if he signed a new contract, on the other hand, with Carr working his magic on the continent, I'm confident we'll find a decent replacement should he leave!

i don't think it's a case of him being uncommitted to the club. he's always performed on the pitch. if he signs again i'm sure he will perform again. he is simply saying that if he got a much better offer, he would consider it. Fair enough. if we were offered a much better player (messi for example) as a straight swap for enrique, we wouldn't think twice about waiving goodbye to enrique, much as we like him.

we can't really demand more loyalty from the player to the club/fans than we are prepared to give to the player

This 'huge' contract, why can't we give Barton one of them as well?

  12. This only means Liverpool aren't going to get him, it doesn't mean Enrique will sign a new contract, and if he plays next season how he's played the last quater of this season, i'd wish we'd hvae sold him.

He's played with no heart at all for the last 10 games or so, he obviously thought he was bound for Liverpool or Man utd so he didn;t give a **** about playing for us now.

Boy, he must be really really good when his head is in the game then.

I thought he was rather good this season, the West Brom match aside.

Love him to stay but I think it may be difficult. That left back slot for Spain is about to open up and his chances will be better served in Europe. However Liverpool cannot offer this so there is some hope. Spurs would be the worry for me. He is much better than Essou Cotto or whatever his name is. Fingers crossed he signs a new deal. Hopefully they'll have the sense to take no less than 12m for him. 5m? May as well run down his contract for that sort of money and the problems it will cause us.

As someone else has mentioned, why not give Barton his contract then? Stupid on the clubs part. Maybe the likes of him and Nolan have served their purpose in the clubs eyes, who knows. I don't think they understand the need to build on the unity we have rather than dismantle it and start again.

I think Barton really has fell out with the board, that's quite apparent. MA is stubborn and I can understand why he wouldn't bow to the demands of a "trouble maker" which Barton seems to be, from the boards point o f view at least.

Good to see you again mind Warm Pouch! <cheers>

Aye I thought the majority seemed to be on here who I knew from 606 so it was worth. I checked it out earlier but it's freedom just seemed to be getting abused by some. Something has clearly happened in the meantime because it seems pretty wum free. I got bored with the whole debating our beloved team for a while! I just stayed on 606 and used the cricket (one of my many other sporting interests). Very sparingly!

I know what you mean re: Barton but I think MA needs to be the bigger man. (jokes aside!) It's about managing personalities for me. It's Barton's bristly personality that makes him such an asset for me. The players seem to understand him and that he doesn't always convey well meant comments in the right way. You need strong character as we've found to our cost before. Plus don't believe everything you read about him slagging him off at the talk ins. I was at the one at the Hilton it was a bit tongue in cheek in the main. As noted on another thread he made choice remarks about several. Just his way and it's just petty to hold it against him. To be honest the way he talked, the board have wanted him gone for a while. Supposedly we're not talking small pay cuts he was asked to take. It was "significant" in his words. I'm resigned to him going, I think they still see him as a heartbeat away from an incident. I did until this year. MA will do as he pleases, I don't get upset with it anymore.

Enrique is one of the best full backs in the entire league, Barton is not one of the best central midfielders. Barton is older. Barton airs his beef with the bosses in public, who among us would get away with griefing our bosses on social networking sites?

If it's true that Barton has been offered a two or three year extension if he really wants to stay at the club he'd sign it instead of risking his job here by stalling on it and attempting to bargain.
