Based on footballing terms we all know Joey Barton should be getting a new contract. Based on his passion for the club he should be getting a new contract. Based on his mouth, he should NOT be getting a new contract.

If you employed someone, and they slagged you off behind their backs, you are not going to take kindly to it are you?

As much as I love Barton, I just wish he hadn't taken part in those talk ins because his mouth has clearly got him in this mess. I can't blame MA for wanting some revenge there, but in footballing terms, they both should have sorted their differences but I can understand it.

Barton won't be here next season, anyone thinking that he will is daft. We will accept the first offer that comes in for him, its Mike Ashley afterall.

I love Barton and really want him to stay, but I am just being realistic about this, his mouth has affected him here(and his wages) and he has played his last game for NUFC.

We've all seen that Mike's not too fussed whether the fans like it or not (changing the stadium name etc) so if he fancies selling Joey and the wages offered are enough I could definitely see him leaving. However I don't think he will, and besides his wage demands are that high that only the top clubs can really afford a luxury like Joey anyways so we're fine and dandy :)

I was just thinking the same thing this morning. He's done himself no favours talking ill of the board. Apparently he was referring to them as "them ****s upstairs" at the talk-in wasn't he?

Why? We know how people feel about Ash and Lamb's arse but Barton really should have more common sense here, it's a shame really.

I'm really hoping we can keep him but with a new contract and not just seeing his present contract run down. He may well have shot himself in the foot with his comments but he's not a sulky Prima Donna like some footballers, he's definitely the type that could put differences behind him and brazen it out. On another matter, an awful lot of wannabe eunnuchs on this site.:emoticon-0111-blush

Personally I think he already knew he wasn't getting a new contract at that stage and thought '**** it, why not'.

Barton is a great player, he is in great form and will no doubt continue that form into the next season. But at the end of the day, he is 28 and apparently wanted a 4-5 year contract taking to 32/33. Look at Paul Scholes 2/3 years ago, he was still amazing, but even as early as last season people were saying "his legs are gone, he can't do it anymore". The club obviously didn't want a 50k a week player riding the bench.

I'm not saying it was the right decision or that it won't come back to bite us in the arse when Barton continues playing at a high level until he is 35 (you never know)...But what I can say, is if those are the reasons the club refused to give him a new contract, its at least understandable!

With Joey it's a case of what you see is what you get.

Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut, but thats not Joey's way.

Whilst Joey is a cracking footballing character we're forgetting that this lad has had ONE good season in FOUR.

Yes, he has turned his career around but thanks to the club. We could have ditched him a long time ago and he could well of ended up on the scrap heap.

The bottom line here is that no player is bigger than the club and after everything we've done for him, ala Carroll, he should back down and take what's on offer. But you don't go around slagging your boss off in the public eye and expect to get everything you want.

As i said on Twitter, rinse the bin dippers for everything they've got and punt him. Dalglish is out of touch and he's only buying players based on there form, not what they can do for his club, it's Liverpool's loss and our financial and long term gain.

I agree wit h Leazes & AP, I've been saying this for a few weeks. Ashley is not a man to be swayed by the fans and makes his own mind up. Barton has basically shot himself in the foot, cut off his nose to spite his face, not looked before he leapt and various cliches but not done himself any favours. I personally can't blame Ashley on this one, if an employee of mine got too big for his boots and started slagging me off publically I'd bin him. He's a billionaire, does he really need the grief and aggro.

Agree against his big mouth, he shouldn't have said some things he said on Twitter.

But if an offer comes in, he isn't forced to accept it and leave?

No, but lets face it, he'll play hardball, try and rinse them for a nice contract, if they don't pay up he can stay. Either way it's win/win for him.

Many companies deem his actions as an offence that merits a P45 as he's most likely contractually obliged to remain quiet about negatives in the club.

I'd be out the door faster than a bullet if I went into the public domain and referred to my employers in the manner he has.

His agent started it with the statement that Barton would only be guaranteed a new deal if someone else bought the club and unfortunately Joey has followed suit and is now ensuring that he will never be offered a new contract.

Problem is, anyone and everyone knows that Willie McKay is a ****ing jebend and that he will do whatever he can to engineer his clients in to better positions. That won't help Barton either.

I personally feel it could go both ways..

One on hand there's what you said Badger.

Then there's: 'Who will sign this man?'
Apart from Newcastle fans, the rest of football seems to hate the guy! Even our board does! He constantly blasts him mouth off, claiming he is the best midfielder in England..Yes Joey you may feel that but keep it in your pants mate.

I feel that he could possibly stay for a very long time just due to the lack of people wanting him! He destroyed all credibility of a turn around when he punched Pederrson in the chest, yes it's a little thing but when he done that you should of seen the uproar on facebook! Even Liverpool fans calling him a scum bag. He can't carry on like this, his attitude and over confidence is destroying his career! And I doubt many managers or boards want him anywhere near the club. The poor news articles he produces are enough to turn you off the guy!

Yep, completely idiotic comments. This club has given him so many chances and are the sole reason he's really got onto the straight and narrow. For him to come out and say that is unbelievably dumb, whether he believes it or not. And don't give me the "That's Joey, you can't change him" bollocks.

It's frustrating because he's still got at least 2 good years in him - I agree with Lord Beer in taking the scousers to the cleaners and get a decent sum that'll allow us to replace him.
