Tricky one for favourites. would love to see the Wallace bros there - always proud to see three in the same line up. That aside, I think it about pairings - MLT & Ekelund, Marsden & Bridge, Paine & Davies, Steele & Blyth, MacDougall & Boyer. Anders Svensson was a favourite too. How do you get a team with that lot in? Impossible but on balance would go for

    Niemi
    Dodd Blyth Steele Bridge
    Paine Svensson MLT Marsden
    Davies MacDougall

Got three of the pairings in. We'll have the Wallace brothers on the bench to wreak havoc in the second half...

    Hmmm...

    ---------------Niemi

    -Dodd--Svennson-Lundekvam-Bale

    Marsden-Svensson-Le Tissier-Surman

    ---------Beattie---Lambert

I suppose if there's enough interest I can run through one in a similar format to the Opposition Team XI once that is completed?

Think that's a great idea - would provide some healthy debate/argument/mild patronising from elder members whilst we don't sign anyone.

I'd be the first to patronise! But actually, as we are talking 'favourites' rather than 'best' then there is no right or wrong its just, who did you like best. For example Francis Benali, not the greatest player but 100% Southampton.

If it's favourites not best then positions don't really matter:

Shilts (he was so good he wouldn't need much of a defence in front of him)

    John McGrath (he'd do)

Terry Paine - Matt Le Tiss - Alan Ball - John Sydenham

Kevin Keegan - Martin Chivers - Ron Davies - Rickie Lambert - Mick Channon

I think that team would win the Prem with the highest ever totals of goals scored (and goals conceded).

Ha ha. More balls than me Chilco, I was thinking of posting two defenders and the rest attacking players as that's where all the favourites are!! Well done, Great team.

I think we need favourite in each position to make a sensible team. I agree that an unstructured all-time favourites would give a different result.

Maybe we need two polls; one by position and one by simply favourite?

    4. Super Kenny Monkou
    5. Dave Watson
    6. Morgan Schneiderlin

This is quite early 90s but it's when I first started going as a 9-10 year old and all the players seemed a bit more special to me. Plus we were pretty good back then. It's possible this line-up actually started some games around 1990-91 time.

    Tim Flowers
Jason Dodd; Russell Osman; Neil Ruddock; Micky Adams
Le Tissier; Jimmy Case; Barry Horne; Rod Wallace
    Paul Rideout; Alan Shearer

Honourable mentions (aka subs bench): Anders Svensson, Richard Hall, Rickie Lambert, Alexei Cherednik, Alan Blayney, Marian Pahars, Nicky Banger

    Davis
    Dodd Richards Svensson Le Saux
    Walcott Oakley Le Tissier Marsden

This may not be the best team, but certainly a pleasing one.

Amazing how many people have picked Jason Dodd, the man loved to back away from a tackle and let the opposition shoot. He was a good servant but i never liked him for some reason, this got proven when i worked on his house and lets just say he wasnt a nice man for many of the builders!
