Let's not forget he was trying to get away last summer, could well be the same this time around for all we know what goes on behind closed doors. I would wait for a statement from the club rather than going off the hear say of a "source".

I would rather keep him if it is true but we don't know what he is like regarding attitude or in training, for a large part of last season he was utter crap particularly around half way through. Short might be insisting Di Canio sells to generate rebuilding funds.

I'd happily let him go! He's only good 6 games a season. Unbelivably overrated doesn't work for the team. Plus he's getting on a bit now so we should get a few mil whilst he has value.

Sounds like agent talk to me. Sess (my player) does not want to leave, Sunderland will let him go (at a price) and you can sign him (but its going to have to be a great contract because he is happy at Sunderland).

More money for the agent, a % of the fee and a % of the new contract.

I would not believe everything in this but if big money came in we would sell. I agree he is our most skillful and creative player but everyone has their price.

I think sess is a brilliant player , but a luxury player for us at our current standing. I love watching him , scored some great goals . then he has games where he wont do a simple pass , loses the ball or goes missing. at the age he is and for the money rumoured to of been offered I would sell. just my opinion chaps

    http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...nd-are-open-to-offers-for-sessegnon-1-5793445

SUNDERLAND will not rebuff offers for Stephane Sessegnon this summer.

The ball wizard and fans’ favourite has been linked with moves to France and China in recent weeks, though no firm offer has yet been received by the Black Cats from either country.

But, unlike last season, Sunderland WILL consider offers this time around, if interested clubs meet their valuation for the Benin international.

Last summer, Martin O’Neill was determined to keep hold of a player who is among the most gifted to wear a Sunderland shirt.

The Northern Irishman hoped that with highly-rated James McClean on one wing and newly-signed England winger Adam Johnson on the other, Sessegnon would have more space to flourish and help Sunderland push towards a top-10 finish.

But after a summer of speculation over his future, Sessegnon proved to be a huge disappointment in the first third of the campaign, struggling for fitness and form and at times.

And it was only in the final third of last season that fans really began to see the best of the African, the front-man scoring four goals in an eight-game burst to help steer Sunderland to safety.

There’s no doubt that Sessegnon’s capacity for match-turning brilliance would be an asset to any club.

But there’s also no hiding the fact he has struggled for consistency – both O’Neill and his successor Paolo Di Canio pointed out that a player of his ability should be scoring more goals.

And with Sunderland undergoing a wholesale squad revamp this summer, Sessegnon is no longer regarded as untouchable.

Very few players are though at the Stadium of Light right now.

The club were not looking to offload Simon Mignolet, but with the keeper stalling on a new contract and Liverpool prepared to pay big money for the star stopper, they agreed to do a deal.

The same approach would apply to Sessegnon, whose agent has appeared more than ready to entertain offers for the player over the last two summers.

And with question marks existing over the striker’s commitment to Sunderland’s cause, the Black Cats will not dismiss out of hand any offers they receive.

Ex-Sunderland manager Steve Bruce paid £6m for the Paris Saint-Germain attacker in 2011 and the club would want at least that much to part with a player who penned a new contract last August.

Although Sessegnon has scored only 17 Premier League goals in 83 starts for the Wearsiders, he has provided numerous assists and his pace, movement and invention have benefited Sunderland on umpteen occasions.

But should Sessegnon want to go and a fee be submitted which is acceptable, owner Ellis Short will have no qualms about letting him leave, as Di Canio continues to oversee a revolution in the composition of Sunderland’s squad.

Sessegnon has been linked with a potential £8m to Marseille, with the player and his family said to be keen to return to France.

But in the last few days there has been talk of him moving too the Chinese Super League. Two clubs were said to be interested – Tianjin Teda and Shanghai Shenhua.

But with Shenhua apparently deciding to drop their interest, the field is clear for Teda to firm up their supposed interest.

There has been no confirmation of any concrete offer for the striker from Asia. But if Sessegnon did move there, it would inevitably draw comparisons with fellow African Asamoah Gyan’s departure from the Stadium of Light in favour of a cash-laden move to Al Ain in the Emirates.

A move back to France could be portrayed as happening for family reasons, but a flight to Asia would fuel accusations of him being a footballing mercenary.

Basically just PDC saying that nobody is safe, if the right offer comes in then they will accept

By doing that to Sess its kind of saying to the team, unless you play well I have no reason to keep you. Meaning if they wanna stay they have to play out of their skins, good idea if you ask me

With his age it wont be anything above £10m if you ask me

Would want something nearer to that mark though, possibly used in a swap deal such as for that Younes Belhanda from Montpellier

Sess goes back to France, we get a younger winger/attacking midfielder…could work

Fair play, every player has his price. Bit different to being told he can leave as originally reported.

This is the Udinese (sp?) model in action really, anyone is up for grabs at the right price. Just look at Spurs, i like the club and they have a good team, but can't stand their chairmen levy. Still if there big stars want to leave they squeeze every penny out of them. In the last 3/4 years they've really progressed since the whole Keane + berbatov era etc

Still a bit sceptical about all this talk of Sess being told he can leave. I've not seen one quote from either the player, his agent, or the club.

Saying that, just like with Catts, if the price is right then take it. Be sorry to see him go but it wouldn't break my heart if he did either.

Doesn't really apply here mate, that model is all about youth development and in the very early stages.

The only decent players last year were mig, fletch and rose. The rest were a heap of ****. Understandable that we'll listen to offers on anybody. I think we should keep Sess because I think PDC can get the best out him, but he's certainly not unsellable. If he's not on the transfer list then teams need to be using his present value as a starting bid.

Imagine if you were Sess listening to all these rumors about the club not bothered about him, you either believe the rumors and don't turn up in any games next season or you wait for the club to back you, if our club has any sense or loyalty they will come out and back the little Benin bastard to be here next season!

Some of our fans are obsessed with making money and getting large sums for players but that means nothing if we cant replace them.

I am quite happy for Sess to see the rest of his career out here.

    Stay Sess!

I love Sess but the more I think about it the more letting him go (at the right price) makes sense. He's a luxury player that we have to work our formation around to suit him. He's also a 7 goal a season striker. As good as he is we may benefit in letting him go. Our biggest problem is our inability to score goals. I'd like to see Fletch play alongside another 10+ goal a season striker next season!

    Just my opinion.
