Apparently the Tour de France was held in Nottingham this morning with only one competitor - or at least that's what he seemed to think.

The traffic was pretty congested, but while motorists tried to get to work safely we also had to contend with a daft **** dressed like Lara Croft who refused to ride anywhere near the cycle lane provided.

He held up queues of traffic, overtook decelerating vehicles on the inside, then tried to slip-stream the ones in front by riding dangerously close.

Throughout all this his head was constantly craning back to check everyone was suitably impressed by his heroics.

Cycle lanes serve no other purpose than to stand as a monument to the incompetence and ignorance of many car drivers that are conditionally allowed on the roads that were originally given a firm surface for cyclists.

    Car drivers need retraining.

Cyclists are like roaches. Shoot red lights, jump onto pavements when it suits them, ignore cycle lanes, undertake dangerously, overtake dangerously, and whine like bitches when they inevitably get themselves into **** and get hurt/die.

Bunch of arseholes who think they are more entitled to use the path or road than anyone else.

Plus they wear lycra, which is just wrong.

See, that's your ignorance. Cyclists ARE more entitled to use the roads than car drivers.

Some are, but the ignorance and arrogance of many anti-cyclists is laughable. Few if any of the arguments stand up.

Take the example in the op. The cyclist is passing the slower cars so is taking no space and holding up nobody, unlike the people sat in a 15' x 5' cars. Would it be better if all the cyclists used their cars instead and joined the queues?

Many have and continue to train, but also cyclists as a sub-group have a greater percentage of car ownership than the general population, there's a good probability the cyclist will be better trained and more experienced than the car driver. Car drivers generally have a poor grasp of the highway code.

So explain to me why cyclists think its ok to undertake cars/lorries, jump red lights, nip onto the pavement when it suits, only use cycle lanes when it suits and always play the victim?

Try to do it without either sounding like a politician, blaming it on the horrible car drivers or claiming they're the victims.

I'd love to know why DMD thinks the lycra clad tosspots are MORE entitled to use the roads than cars. (ps just so you don't make the classic cyclist mistake, I do not think my road tax pays for and entitles me to use the roads, it doesn't)

Where did you get that one ?
The only people i know who have had training on cycling on the road had it in primary school. Maybe if you have to get a licence to cycle on the road you could argue that one.
Don't get me wrong there are some good cyclists on the roads its just a shame any twat can jump on a bike and think he owns the road and ruin it for the rest of you

You've never paid ANY road tax. You pay the same rate of vehicle excise duty as a cyclist. If you want cyclists to display a ved disc, your ved wil go up.

You make the mistake of commenting on cyclists as a homogenous lump, but ignore car drivers speeding, using mobile phones, reading or eating muesli and don't know the highway code if you don't think cyclists can filter and overtake.

I don't think you would have said that if you had seen him DMD. He was whipping between cars like a nutter and he rode so close behind others that he could never have stopped if someone touched their brakes.
He also refused to move out of the middle when the road started to clear causing completely unnecessary queues. Basically he was a ****er who probably had a chip on his shoulder.

For a start most wil have past a car test, plus many have done bikeability courses and share road skils with fellow cyclists. Looking at this thread as an example, car drivers sem to swap myths and misconceptions while reinforcing stereotypes to justify it.

A poor cyclist puts themselves at risk. An ignorant person in charge of a tonne of metal is a danger to me and mine.

Strictly speaking, he doesn't have to mov out of the middle. Depends on the road and where I'm going, but I tend to hold my position until I feel I'm not at risk I I move over. After that I'l be about the poition of a cars nearside wheel.

Most cyclists don't do what you've listed in your first paragraph, it's only a few idiots and us cyclists despise them as much as non cyclists do.

I'm a cyclist and a car owner, there are bad cyclists and there are bad drivers. The difference is a bad car driver is in control of a 2 tonnes of steel and a bad cyclist 10kg of carbon, you decide which is worse.

Also you don't pay road tax, it doesn't exist.

Jumping on the use of the phrase road tax, even though I clearly stated it doesnt pay for or entitle a car driver to anything....nice work.

So basically you can't answer the questions without blaming it on non cycling car owners. Brilliant.

I don't deny there are bad car drivers, and sure, car drivers are a danger, not as much of a danger as bad lorry drivers, or bar pilots but hey, its all relative. A cyclist acting like a twat is a danger to all other road users as well as pedestrians.

I will however respond when I see the typical, self absorbed arrogance that small minority of lycra wearing tosspots like to spout off like DMD did with his opener:

Most car owners don't drive like that either.
