QPR boss Harry Redknapp to use rigorous pre-season schedule in bid to get side fit for Championship life

    By talkSPORT | Monday, June 24, 2013

QPR boss Harry Redknapp will use a rigorous pre-season schedule to get his side fit for the demands of life in the Championship.

The former Spurs boss inherited a side he believes was not physically fit enough and he will use the summer months to address the situation.
"We are back on July 1st when we have pre-season and a couple of trips, one to Devon and one to Austria," he said.
You need players that can play Saturday - midweek, Saturday - midweek otherwise you are going to struggle
    — Harry Redknapp
"We will play a couple of matches and get the team ready for the start of the season and getting ourselves promoted next year.
"It is important, you need fit players to survive in or get out of that league. You need players that can play Saturday - midweek, Saturday - midweek otherwise you are going to struggle.
"You need lads that can put those sorts of performances in and pre-season is important. I think there are some players that we can get fitter than they were last year."

Although this article doesn't really say a lot in terms of what this ' Fitness Schedule ' might entail, it's good to see that he is finally using 'us' and 'we' in his vernacular.

and 'promoted' rather than 'difficult'. That's the attitude we need Harold if you are going to see this through.

    Did he really say this...
"We will play a couple of matches and get the team ready for the start of the season and getting ourselves promoted next year."

Other than it is not a well constructed sentence, who is he kidding., getting ourselves promoted next year???!!! .....................is that all it takes!!!

I've just watched the 7 minute interview here.... http://www.player.qpr.co.uk/latest-news/article/3218587
He is surprisingly upbeat and positive throughout the interview and emphasises the need for strong team spirit and team bonding in pre-season. He also mentions the players fitness (as above) and thinks that a few of the players were overweight last season.
Redknapp also goes on to mention getting players in and said that we have a few irons in the fire, one being a striker and a few other options in other areas.
When asked by Ian Taylor what his message to the fans was, he said ''We want to get promoted next season and get back in the premiership. That is our ambition. With a quality new pitch we can play good football, and if we get everything in place there is no reason why we can't be up there challenging.'' He also said he was looking forward to it.

So now he's gone from too negative to too positive? What should he say then? It seems if you're a public figure these days, you can't do right for doing wrong!! He didn't just fall out of the sky beth, he started his career in the lowers leagues, so I'm sure he knows how tough it will be. But also that we do have a chance of going up. And he's right that in a 46 game season, fitness will be half the battle! I cant really find fault in the statement here, but I guess there's always some who will........

I can't believe that he actually used the "p" word. That's more like it Harold!

Who do you think he's talking about when he says that there are players that should get fitter?? Adel?? Samba?? Zamora?? Johnson??

One thing i find a little baffleing is that Hughes and his entourage had pre season plus 13 matches in charge yet it appears that the players were not physically fit enough to play 38 games.....which begs the question what exactly were the fitness trainers paid for? They even had a nice mid season break in Dubai.....and Harold had 25 games to get them "physically fit" but for some reason couldn't......god the more we hear about last season the more depressing it gets.....

Still onwards and upwards........just had a look at the new kits on the historical football kits website and they do look good......

Warnock had the right idea bringing them all down to Devon for some good home cooked food and fresh air.

Hughes also laid on this trip that the players didn't really deserve......

Sun, sea and serious hard work for QPR flops after Hughes reads riot act

It should have been, you guys beat Blackburn and you will have a nice trip to look forward to - perhaps he should have said that before the game instead of at half-time?

    This photo says it all....

However, Hughes admits the trip will also give him a chance to assess the mentality of his new charges and rebuild their fragile confidence after their first-half performance at Blackburn.

Do we have a team psychologist or motivational speaker?
