Basically, because he dared to say he won't stay at Brighton forever and that he wanted to evaluate his options over summer. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22563280 I would imagine there is something more to it than just those comments though. Although they've said its 'breach of contract due to comments he made' I highly doubt that was the only reason and its more likely he, or his agent, had spoken to someone without the clubs permission.
I thought it was because someone (he) took a dump in the Crystal Palace changing room after the play off semis..... <genuinestory>
Shocking from the Beeb to interview him directly about his sacking during HT, almost as bad as that idiot who told Ivanovic that he was now banned for the Champions League Final!
Cheers all. So, it's not really known exactly/for definite why I assume. It would be strange if it were due to him saying about leaving as didn't the club also suspend Taricco? I guess for it to stand up in court, if ever it needed to, then they'd need good grounds to sack him. Been a massive success though so seems crazy to get to of him!
The whole situation seems bizarre, if his comments about considering other options were to blame, then firing him hardly helps, as they've lost any compensation they could have got.
Smeared on the walls of the away dressing room BEFORE the second leg of the semi-final. If that happened at Carrow Road, would any of us think it reflected well on our club and its manager? Also, the Brighton owners and board have resurrected that club, built the new stadium, done everything they can to move the club forward only to have Poyet throw his toys out of the pram when HIS team fall at the next to last hurdle. I imagine they feel let down, a bit like we felt about PL's show of personal ambition -- plus allowing the club's reputation to be dirtied (literally).
surely it's unprofessional of the BBC to give him the press release live on air - do it off-air. bizarre
I believe he was informed during the first half of the match, and then they interviewed him about it at halftime. Strange timing from the football club if anything, surely they knew he was doing the punditry that night?
Why are people trying to paint the football club in a bad light? They are a well-run outfit and as far as I can see have done everything by the book. Poyet is currently suspended and anyway doesn't have to report all his engagements to his employers. There was a properly scheduled disciplinary hearing which Poyet failed to attend, claiming not enough time to prepare his case (aided by the LMA). The club have denied that, and may take legal action against the LMA for their statement when any appeal by Poyet has been concluded. The BBC jump at any chance to create controversy.
Because they were gutless/Spineless (take your pick) to not say it directly to Gus. I find that appalling behaviour from supposedly professional people. Other than those that made the decision, GP should have been the very 1st person to know.
There you go boys! A quality replacement is now available for when you decide to ditch that 'no-mark' Hughton!
I think JWM that given last season he deserves another one.Wouldn't mind having Gus to visit your dressing room at half time though if we ever get back in the same division.
completely and wholeheartedly agree robbie. things have been twisted by poyet, LMA and the beeb, not the football club who as far as i can tell have acted appropriately and decently throughout.
You are Joking right? What price loyalty? Poyet turned down an offer from Reading at Christmas because he wanted to stay at Brighton and now these bastards have turned round and stabbed him between the shoulder blades! Brighton have never had any class, all fur coat and no knickers that lot!
