    Not really.
Players like Sissoko, Debuchy and Mapou had proven themselves in the French League and also have international caps (quite well know players who were mentioned on this forum lots, well in advance of signing... far from unknown therefore). These players turned out to be great additions for us in a struggling team and exceeded my expectations.
Gouffran and Haidara had proven themselves in the same league albeit only having U21 caps for their country (the latter being bought initially for our development squad). I'm more than happy with their contribution also as I expected them to hardly feature in the second part of the season.
All in all the time to judge any new acquisition will be after a full season in the PL.

Management is a different animal alltogether.

A player under performing can rely on some of his team mates to cover for inadequacies, or an in form striker to score the goals to pull the side out of the crap.

A manager... well he can't. The buck stops with him.

Poyet has done nothing in management IMHO and needs another 4-5 years with a bigger club than Brighton to prove his pedigree. I really like the bloke and his brand of football but we can't afford to take a gamble at this stage with all of the changes and indeed bullshit flying around NE1 right now.

Happy with Pards, cracking manager but if he did go I wouldn't be against Poyet. He's mental and him/Kinnear could be dangerous PR wise, but the craic would be fantastic.

I was on about the previous season where you were the surprise package. Not the players who came in January.

Cabaye, Santon (not french) and Ben Arfa unknown? I love these respewed newspaper 'facts'.... One about Joe Kinnear mentioned the summer we signed 'Unknown Collocini and Gutierrez' they were Argentine internationals, only unknown if you know nothing other than British football...

Just looked now and Poyet is still odds against at 11/10

It's a shame that Betfair aren't carrying this market as I would be laying Kinnear getting the position.

Luke Edwards ‏from the Telegraph fanning the flames - "It's alright Gus Poyet, I'm sure you'll get another job soon. Did enough at #bhafc to ensure that & like Di Canio suspect it will be in PL!"

Would love this to be true. His teams play on the floor and I'm certain that Cabaye, HBA etc would all flourish playing under his stewardship.

Poyet would be good. I'd certainly start him ahead of Jonas.

Have to say if we got Poyet I could handle Wise being his number two. If Poyet got the job and he thought Wise was the best option as his right hand man who am I to argue with him?

I know what Wise did in the past wasn't on, but at the end of the day he was under instruction from MA. Also I can see why they did what they did when Keegan wanted them to pursue Lampard etc. I'm not saying I agree with what they did, just that the players Keegan was targeting were massively unrealistic and out of budget...that said MA, DL & DW should have been upfront and honest with Keegan about the budget at the time as they were obviously poles apart on how they thought was the best approach to take the club forward.

Would have been done by now, Mike is standing by his man, and so he should. You get nowhere without patience. You don't go from manager of the year to useless in one season. Time is required to find out Pardews level and true style of play.

With everything that's gone on with Kinnear & Llambias etc and Pardew now on a short holiday it still wouldn't surprise me if this time next week Pardew was no longer our manager.

I also think MA could have been waiting for Poyet to get sacked to avoid having to pay compensation for him on top of paying off Pardew.

Not saying I think it'll happen, just that it is plausible and that I'd like it to actually happen.

I think this is the thing that has the football world questioning the appointment of jfk, from the outside looking in the puppet (cant be 100% civil) had his biggest job to date with europe and that, gave it a good crack and stayed in the prem with all sorts of problems to deal with.

Mike has ballsed up here, i cant make heads nor tails of it tbh, purely from a football perspective, from an safc pov it brill, and i mean that in the best possible taste
