Bloody hell, silly season has officially started.

£8m for Vydra <yikes> Whose put that bid in? It could only be Sven, or Dalglish!

Its one hell of a risk paying big for Hooper. If it was me I would much prefer spending big on Jordan Rhodes

It's really not that big a risk, he's obviously run rampant in the SPL(which many will not see as much of an achievement), but he also looked at home in the Champions League.

Rhodes would also do a good job and he apparently wants to join us, but Blackburn want at least £8m and he's on £45k a week, which we won't be paying anyone.

If you could get wage drop relegation clauses in his contract then I would go for him if I was you. His resale value would be around the same if not more and if he doesnt leave you know you will probably have the best striker in the league if you come down

The championship is a better standard then the SPL by a country mile. So for that reason I would rather spend 7M+ on Rhodes then Hooper. Albeit Hooper impressed at Scunthorpe

The thing is AKCJ you are saying Vydra is worth 8M

Udiense are saying he is worth more as they rejected 8M.

Kasper for example has had 2 fantastic season justifying a hefty price tag. Vydra has had 1

We're not going to sign a player on £45k a week, when he's never even played in the Premier League.

We leave those sort of ridiculous deals to you lads.

Sometimes you have to pay the best to get the best. Aslong as you dont have a clueless baffon like Sven in charge

Steve Bruce has spent big before on players like Darren Bent, Asamoah Gyan to name 2. And on a lower scale Prossie

Darren Bent and Asamoah Gyan worked though. It was the departure of them two players that led to the fall from grace that Sunderland have just experienced.

Steve Bruce isn't at Sunderland any more, he has to work within the constraints set by the Hull City owners now.

Our confirmed targets so far are exactly the sort of players we should be looking at, Figeuroa, Davies, Schmeichel/McGregor, Hooper and Austin.

None of them will get £45k a week, nor should they.

Yeah but Vydra is a striker and they always command bigger fees.

I suppose the logic is strikers win games for you, but goalkeepers only stop you losing them.

Kasper is probably "better" than many of your own strikers but would cost less. Personally I think £8m is far too much for Vydra, but Everton seem to be prepared to gamble.

The lads 20 (maybe 21) and has scored 20 goals in the championship as well as setting up a **** load more. His goals havn't been tap ins either, he can score any type of goal.

He's got pace, skill, touch, vision, the ability to be in the right place at the right time aswell as the ability to make runs that can open up any defence.

He's probably the best player this league has seen IMO, I think he could easily play in the Premier League.

Frankly Proud, that's irrelevant ... Michu has had one tremendous season in the Premier League - it may not be quite so good next eason but he will not metamorphose into a pile of ****e either ... he is technically excellent ... as is Vydra.

In today's over inflated market I think Vydra is worh at least the £8 milion being touted .. he's a goalscorer (a priceless commodity) but far more than just a six yard poacher ... his movement and technique made him a nightmare for our defenders in those 3 games at the end of the season and I think he will get a hatful at whatever level he plays because he is THAT good - I was hugely impressed - the best striker outside the Premier league by some distance ... Man United signed Zaha for £15m largely down to his potential ... Vydra has bags of potential too but is also a clinical finisher...

The goal Vydra scored against us in the second leg was pure class, worthy of any of the top leagues in Europe ... he spins from his marker - admittedly a world class chipped pass off the instep by Cassetti - but the technique by Vydra to volley the ball coming down over his shoulder into the far corner was top drawer. Now in isolation I might dismiss that as a fluke - but it's not ... some of the goals he scored last season were equally as good. I really can't understand some of the negativity and scorn being aimed at that bid - for me that's a very astute manager making that bid ... Jordan Rhodes will never be anywhere near as good ... although he will get plenty of caps for Scotland <whistle>.

Im sorry Matej Vydra isnt as good as your making out. Other then the play off 2nd leg he didnt impress me against us at all. Big Wes and Michael Keane dealt with him with ease. He had 1 chance in the home PO game where he got 1 on 1 with Kasper and he completely fluffed his lines. He started the season on fire but like David Nugent and Chris Wood he had a poor ending to the season. There is better players available then Vydra for less

We will have to disagree completely - Watford ripped us so many new ones in both games at the Walkers because of Vydra's movement first and foremost - he dragged his marker all over the place allowing others to run into the spaces created but also got himself into wonderful positions - yes he missed a couple of chances all strikers do - so what? - he scrored when it mattered most with his two against us in the second leg - one spectacular one clinical - Kasper had no answer to either. Pleass don't compare Nugent to him ... that's embarassing (Wood has time yet but technically is miles off Vydra right now.) As to fluffing lines, Kasper came rushing out of his goal like a headless chicken for Watford's third, leaving Deeney with a virtually empty net to put the ball into - but he had made so many telling saves in both legs up to then that it would be wrong to cite that as the incident that defined his performance (as you seem to be doing about Vydra)

FF what do you have against David Nugent?

At the end of the day regardless of high good Vydra is he isnt Watford's player and he has already said he doesnt want to go back to Watford

Just because Man U paid massively over the odds for Wilfried Zaha doesnt mean every transfer needs to be judged by that

Got nothing against David Nugent Proud - just realistic - he's a journeyman professional who I think can do a job in helping us get out of this league ... but is short of being genuine Premier League class and perhaps always was ... as his history tends to suggest.

Take the time out to watch this - the pace, the ball control ... but most of all what he does one on one

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtaytweRt0Q

I'd kill to have a player of this quality at our club.

It sounds like we are close to agreeing a fee with Bolton for Jermaine Beckford
