The talk up in Glasgow is that Vic's holding out for a move to L'pool.

I've done a quick check and it's literally only the Record reporting that so far.

I wouldn't begrudge him if he held out and got a move to Liverpool or Arsenal etc., but I'd be fairly miffed if Cardiff got him ahead of us.

I think our transfer policy is a less extreme version of what Chelsea and Man City did immediately after getting loads of money. Only instead of throwing crazy money at people like Robben, Adebayor or Tevez we're possibly offering slightly over the odds for younger guys on the up.

Liverpool were supposedly after Lovren as well but weren't prepared to pay what we are. That makes sense, we need him more. He appears to be better than what we have and he'll (probably) be our first choice central defender while Liverpool have similar quality players already so he'd be more of a squad player there. It's similar with Wanyama. We need him more than Liverpool so we're probably prepared to pay a bit more than they are.

Of course that's fine as far as agreeing a fee with a club goes, getting the player to agree to come here is a different story.

That Record story says we offered a risible, offensive amount. I really can't see that being true.

This is the same 'Record' who said Craig Whyte was a billionaire, wealth off the radar, Rangers man with Rangers' best interests at heart.

We all know how that one worked out.

As with many tabloid stories the basic point may be true (we haven't agreed personal terms yet) but the sensational spin put on the story is probably a load of crap.

Straight away I'd point out the headline says the deal is off, which suggests talks have broken down completely, while the actual story says we'll have to significantly increase our offer, which suggests negotiations are continuing.

Your right Tina, no one should believe any tabloid crap until the team in question make an official statement .
Can't remember the last time I bought a paper due to crap in them especially the sun and mail.

Just shows you shouldn't believe papers when they say it is sorted. The deal being off may be more believable as I didn't sense enthusiasm on the player's part. As for the amount being risible, it was probably a huge profit to them, but if they want more...that is up to them. Be the same if we turned down a bid for Schneiderlin. I'm sure there are a lot of irons in the fire.

According to that story, it's his "representatives" who were unimpressed by the deal on offer. Whilst I am totally opposed to the use of gratuitous violence as a means of conflict resolution, if I ever meet anyone who claims to be a player's agent, I will hit them, repeatedly, in the face, with a shovel.

If Cardiff are prepared to pay higher wages than us, I would be shocked to say the least.
Strange really, our Belgium target likes the wages but thinks we are far to little for him to come to and dear Victordoesnt mind coming to little Saints but thinks the money isn't enough....strange world isn't it?

Isn't he still on holiday? I believe it may be the agent getting greedy, after all the more he gets for victor the bigger his slice.
And I would be disappointed if Cardiff get him.

    Hi guys,

Part of me would love Liverpool to get Wanyama - been looking enviously at Fellaini for years now, and wished we went in for Leroy Fer. He'd give us a bit of bite in midfield.

Have to say though, I think you'll end up with him. Not sure if he'd rather have a guaranteed chance to shine with you or compete with Lucas, Gerrard and indeed Allen for the defensive role in our midfield.

At any rate I'd love to see him in the PL, with Liverpool or you lot... love what you're doing with your club... shows what clubs can attract if they have ambition.

    Right then, here's my take.

The Scotland on Sunday paper said Victor flew back from holiday (he was in Kenya, as you can see from his tweets). I do not believe for one minute that a player would fly back from a holiday in Kenya, without knowing the initial offer. His agent will have been carrying out initial discussions at very least whilst Wanyama was away.

I fail to believe that he would've flown back, taking up a large portion of the day, then meet Saints and reject us so quickly. If he was that disinterested or the offer was that risible, I don't think he'd have even come back to the country.

    Just my take.

We have a reported history of meeting the price, but offering wages that are low by British standards. If Wanyama chooses Cardiff over us it cannot be for footballing reasons (as they have only just been promoted) or for family reasons, so it has to be the wages. We may have to upgrade our wage ceiling at some point, but don't see Wanyama as a reason to do so.
