TSS, a man of your obvious culture and musical knowledge, I would have hoped you would have at least gone with the original or my favourite version of that excellent song.

Me too, I was shocked. UB40 are just a bunch of cover artists cashing in on others' brilliant songwriting.

Aren't a lot of famous musicians? Elton John, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley etc.

I know but considering the Campbell brothers' father played in bands with people like Spencer Davis and Christine Perfect (who became Christine McVie) you would think a heritage like that would make you go for a more original musical challenge rather than regurgitating commercial versions of ska and reggae classics, not to mention the worst version of "I Got You Babe" ever recorded. Rant over, back on topic, has he signed yet?

Of course, but for me with this genre, it is my favourite (ska/reggae) and touched a spot. Having said that my favourite version of red, red, wine is a cover anyway ...Tony Tribe (not sure we can call Neil Diamond a reggae or ska artist )

Moderators, please can you get this thread under control and free us of talk about that bloody awful cover-band.

I am horrified that this comment might be sincere.

Wow.

What? All Cortese has to do is fire a few offers across, they counter, and when the little bar with the uncanny valley agent face at the top gets red, you give in to their latest demands. Over and done with in moments. Could sign ten players in an afternoon if only he knew how to do it.

Now the fee has reportedly been agreed it will be interesting to see if any of the other clubs linked with him match our bid

They mention other clubs, but surely they would have stepped in if their interest was serious. I think clubs keep a watching brief on a few players, but only step up their interest if another deal falls through. I bet we have our eye on back up players, but we won't make a move while this deal is still 'live'.

Nothing to be worried about. They cannot swipe him without his signature, and he cannot provide said signature if he is ensconced in Cortese's negotiation dungeon until a contract is agreed.

Related, I hear that the dungeon played a large role in convincing Boruc...not because he was intimidated, but because he considered it thoughtful that Saints went to such trouble to prepare an environment to put him at ease.

The only likely hold up is him holding out for an offer from a bigger club, fair enough really, but hopefully they'll put the screws to him and have it done next week.

I know they're buddies and everything, but it would be stupid for him not to wait and look at which other clubs are serious. Careers are limited and I'm sure Wanyama would love to play for a massive team in the Champions League and all that.

He's played for a massive team in the Champions League for two years now, time for a change of environment! But yeah, I'm sure his entire team will be holding out to see if they can get a bigger offer from a better team.

I'm not expecting Buttneresque shananigans, but I can see this dragging on for a while yet. It's unquestionably a massive deal for all concerned, with a fine young player who is highly rated by many.

Vic Leaves

Celtic last night agreed a record-breaking £10million-plus fee with Southampton for Victor Wanyama.
As exclusively revealed in SunSport this week, Saints are in pole position to land the Kenyan powerhouse.
We can confirm Celtic have officially granted Wanyama, 21, permission to talk to the Premier League side.
Wanyama admitted last night that he is weighing up a megabucks move — with just personal terms to be thrashed out.
He said: “Yes, my club has agreed terms with Southampton, but I will also have to agree to terms before I consider myself a Saint. The deal is far from being complete.”
Arsenal, Cardiff, Stoke, Galatasaray and Inter Milan are among several clubs also interested in the Hoops’ prized asset.
But Celtic chiefs see no reason why the Saints deal won’t be completed.
Wanyama has made no secret of his desire to quit Parkhead having rejected the offer of an improved contract to stay.
SunSport understands Celtic will be stunned if the midfielder stalls on moving to St Mary’s.
The huge Wanyama fee will shatter the Scottish record of £9.5m Spartak Moscow paid Celtic for Aiden McGeady in 2010.
It will also represent a massive profit on a young player signed from Belgian minnows Beerschot for just £900,000 two years ago.
Wanyama shot to fame in Celtic’s run to the last 16 of the Champions League, scoring in the 2-1 win over Barcelona.
Scouts from all over Europe flew into Glasgow as he quickly became one of the hottest properties in the British game.
Southampton have cash to splash as boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to add to a squad which already includes former Bhoys Artur Boruc, Jos Hooiveld and Danny Fox.
Hoops boss Neil Lennon will be sorry to see the midfielder go with vital Champions League qualifiers on the horizon.
But Celtic feel they cannot stand in Wanyama’s way after he expressed his wish to move on.
Lennon has already snapped up Portuguese striker Amido Balde and Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk this summer.
And Hoops scouts will continue to scour the market for more bargains between now and the end of the transfer window.
