If his recent injuries have made him re-evaluate his combative style slightly and they're not career threatening in themselves, he's exactly the type of player we've been missing since Ash went. Someone who gets stuck in and breaks up play, fires up the other players and the crowd. As long as the deal was not exorbitant, I'd say he's just what we need .
Just to put things in perspective, in his 4 seasons with Sunderland, Cattermole received 3, 13, 10 and 8 bookings. Last season David Meyler received 10 bookings. Did Meyler prove to be a liability? And he's not even a defensive midfielder.
What age did Windass stop being sent off and booked? For immature blokes it is often mid twenties when they leave their adolesence behind. If he is starting to grow up this could be a great signing. We will not get players of his calibre without a risk putting off the biggeer clubs. Without his glass knees Bullard would not have been here.
Usually when players have bad injuries they do adapt their style. People like Keane, Dave Mackay etc. Cattermole's a good player. The added incentive is its a World Cup next year, assuming we get there. A great season for an English player, playing every week and youve got a chance of going to Brazil. We're not blessed with an array of talent are we. People like Carlton Cole, Cattermole, Darren Bent must surely want to be at a club where they will play every week?? People like Rodwell, Scott Sinclair ****ed up their careers for money.
