    Recommendations?

I live in the Wyke area and at the minute I'm choosing between Xercise4Less and QuickGym, am I missing a better option? (Preferably without paying £30 a month or heading into town)

QuickGym is slightly further away but does sound better - £10 a month just sounds too good to be true though - anyone go there?

I've been back in Hull for about 3 weeks and the lack of exercise is killing me.

Ennerdale could be an option, depending on what time you plan on going, and what you actually want.

It is a pretty small gym, and I hear it gets unbearable in peak times - but if you go during the day it can be pretty good, because you get the swimming and sauna too.

Ennerdale didn't even get on my radar actually, good shout.

I don't have a busy enough life to be forced to go at peak times <whistle> so I'll have a look at pricing, cheers <ok>

I think that you can pay £3 for a one-off visit, so you could use it as a 'trial run', though prices are pretty decent, especially since you get swimming, sauna etc... plus your card is good for all Council places like Woodford, Bev Road etc...

    I go to QuickGym.

There are several prices on different contracts but the best one for you would be the student one because I'm guessing you'll be off back to Sunderland in a couple of months? Students pay £13.50 a month with no minimum term or cancellation notice. You can get it cheaper (it actually goes as low as £5.50 a month) but you have to sign up for a long time. 3 years in fact to get the £5.50/month price.

Cheapest way to get really fit and get lean is to join one of the bigger running clubs-East Hull Harriers or City of Hull. You will need to be able to jog reasonably to begin but the club nights cater for people who are starting out.
Once you start to push yourself against those of your level it will get you truly fit.
Membership is a pittance and once you get your gear you are fixed up for years except for replacing trainers.
Oh yeah-sun tan usually for 6 months of the year

After looking at Ennerdale prices I'm back to QuickGym.

£13.50 is amazingly value but in my experience you get what you pay for - £100 for the year in Sunderland - tiny gym, only free weights it has are dumbells.
    How do you rate it?

I'll be heading back to Sunderland in just under 3 months so a monthly contract would be perfect.

Without turning this into bodybuilding.com, does it have a squat rack, bench press & barbells? Sounds stupid I know but after the Sunderland gym fiasco I have to ask.

As you've probably guessed from the above, I'm not just looking at cardio. Cheers though <ok>

My daughter goes to XL4 less on Clough Road for a tenner a month and loves it - I was paying more than this 10 years ago for much less.

Quickgym does indeed have all the stuff you mentioned and decent changing/shower facilities etc.

E4Less is cheaper, and apparently decent, but I think you have to commit for the year.

£15 per month if you want to use a 1-month rolling contract. I think that settles my decision.

I've been concentrating on cardio for about 8 months now and with 32lbs gone, I'm planning on starting lifting. So if you see some ****** with terrible form, that's probably me <laugh>

Cheers for all the input guys <ok>

Buy a set of kettlebells and work.out at home. You can do weights and cardio with them. Never any queues and cheaper in the long run

Gyms are full of espadrille wearing pussies, with fake tans and threaded eyebrows. Real men pound beef in meat lockers.

Failing that, follow payton's mullets advice and workout at home. My man scooby is a good starting point...

Don't get me started. The amount of people I see in Sunderland taking pictures of themselves, placing the weight machines on the highest possible setting - to do half a rep... and just generally doing absolutely anything they can to avoid actually working out... it's on the border between hilarious and painful.

My uni gym in first year was literally just cardio equipment that mainly didn't work and two of those multi gyms, one for legs and one upper body, was absolutely shocking, and even at £60 for a year it was horrible value!

If you only wanna pay a cheapo rate then you will have to accept that you'll be in an over subscribed gym where no doubt they've cut corners on facilities.

I go to Nuffield. I used to go to Fitness First before it closed (Xercise 4 Less was the killer blow) and FF was a quality gym. It is missed. RIP.

I don't think Nuffield is as good to be honest, it's too hot in there and a bit small and stupidly busy sometimes. The level of women is higher though, I have to admit, and there is a pool. You've got to look for the positives.

I have to feel settled at a gym to really start the ripping process with gusto, and I'm still getting there with Nuffield. It doesn't quite feel like my exercise home yet, but 4 years of Fitness First will do that. So long, old friend...

Get yourself down the gym 2 or 3 times a week (depending how busy your life is, or how much you've smashed it the time previous - recovery is incredibly important, as we all know) and start going on long runs once a week for your cardio. Cardio in the gym eats into your energy reserves for weights, if you ask me. Keep 'em separate if you can so you can smash them properly and not do a half-arsed job on both.

Follow my simple advice (oh, and don't eat bucketloads of **** food either) and you will eventually look as good as me.

Also, take time to enjoy the envy of others as they stare down to their protruding bellies, filled with rotting gizzards, and see your washboard firmness in contrast. It really is good. No need to mention it, just let it hang. And it will. Oh it will.

    Easy.

    Next.

The main thing you need is motivation , , I'm sat in a Virgin Active now as my Lad is in a tennis tournament that'll last for hours, I could easy go use the Gym which is state of the art, go swimming indoor or outdoor, but I'm sat in the lounge , tapping away on my iPad .

My motivation has evaporated lately, need to find a bottle of it from somewhere .

Respect to all who have it abundance .
