Anyone ever been to Stonehenge for the Solstice? I tried to in 1991 when there was a 5 mile exclusion zone. Got escorted off military land by two military police and a bloody great dog. Was great fun trying to get there and the festival still took place just outside the 5 miles anyway.
I was at Stonehenge this morning. The family and I left for Wiltshire at 10pm and arrived at the Avebury services just before 12.30am. We walked up the hill and took our places with the twenty-thousand others. The wife and nippers kipped in their sleeping bags while I chatted with a druid for the next couple of hours. And then, at 4.40am, the sun began to rise and stroke the earth with its glorious golden rays. It is a sight to behold and one that never diminishes in its glory, even after ten years of attending the solstice. On the way home, we took a detour and visited Wayland's Smithy - one of the most beautiful and magical places on earth - where we enjoyed a picnic and an hour of complete solitude. Then we left an offering for the Gods and ventured home. If you have never experienced the solstice, then I highly recommend it.
That was when the police smashed the **** out of the New Age Traveller convoy: If only they'd do that to the pikies instead.
Much better now, SN23. Thank you for enquiring. The kids are always allowed to have the day off from school when it is Summer Solstice. We are dedicated Wiccans and uphold our right to celebrate our religion accordingly.
