http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-joe-kinnear-hired-end-1972369

Joe Kinnear has been brought to Newcastle United to bang heads together and end a feud between manager Alan Pardew and his chief scout, Graham Carr.

Pardew and Carr have been at odds for months, and there have been disagreements over the Magpies' past and future signings.

Now Kinnear, a man ironically renowned for his confrontational style and ability to divide opinion, has been parachuted into the internal battle as all-powerful referee and peace-maker.

The Geordies' owner, sportswear tycoon Mike Ashley, wanted to introduce a trusted outside figure in a bid to snuff out the damaging power struggle.

Pardew has complained that some of the players landed by Carr have not been good enough - a view the latter hotly disputes.

For example, midfielder Vurnon Anita was signed for £5.6million from Ajax last summer, but has not been trusted with a long run in the side.

There has also been doubt about the best position for France international Moussa Sissoko.

He has been played as an attacking midfielder or on the right wing, but could be more influential as a holding midfielder.

Carr has championed the policy of buying up young, foreign talent, but Pardew now wants to balance that with a couple of experienced new stars.

Success stories from Carr's approach include bargain signings Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye, who were bought for a combined £11m.

But with 10 players in his squad for whom French is the first language, Pardew has argued he wants more English speakers with top flight experience to balance the dressing room dynamic and end communication issues.

The stand-off between manager and chief scout led to a breakdown in relations towards the end of last season, with the pair said by an insider who had observed the dynamics to be “stabbing each other in the back.”

The rift put Ashley in a difficult position as both Pardew and Carr are in the first 12 months of eight-year contracts.

Ashley’s disgust at the way Newcastle plunged from fifth-place finishers in 2012 to relegation contenders resulted in his decision to bring in trusted drinking-buddy Kinnear as his eyes and ears at the training ground.

The 66-year-old is tasked with reporting directly to Ashley and providing his own take on events.

A Toon insider explained: “Carr and Pardew are at daggers drawn. Carr says that the players he has brought in are good enough, Pardew says they are not.

“Kinnear has been brought in as a trouble-shooter, as Ashley does not know what to do - he doesn’t know who is right or who is wrong.

“Kinnear has been brought in to do Ashley’s dirty work.

“There is a stand-off between Carr and Pardew. There was hardly any communication between them towards the end of last season and there is little now.

“Both are on massive contracts. Carr is stabbing Pardew in the back, and vice versa.

“It is a horrible situation. The internal wranglings and politics at the club is frightening. I’ve never seen or known a situation as intense or as bad as this.”

Newcastle’s next signing will be yet another Frenchman - 17-year-old Metz striker Olivier Kemen.

Pardew is a ****, and if he gets Carr sacked because of his ineptitude he's an even bigger ****.

Anita's going to be sold isn't he? I ****ing hate my club at times.

What has Carr done wrong for Pardew to have any reason to attack him?

He picked a player once.... Obertan.

The prick wasn't complaining about Carr when he collected his manager of the year award was he?

I honestly think that we would be better putting Carr in pardews place on the touchline. Some of his team selections last year were baffling. Also I am of the firm belief that the manager should be in full control of what players he signs. This kind of set up rarely works out well

Not a bad shout. Even Tash could do a better job than Pardew.

It all must be true, a toon insider said so. Plus the Mirror is a fine upstanding paper.

Pardew is legend. Carr is a legend. <ok> Both done a fine job for the club. I'm pretty sure that I remember Pards speaking glowingly of his work not so long ago. Surely the media wouldn't just be latching onto this JK thing and having a field day? Surely not.

pardew is an idiot - I have no problem with idiots, however if the idiot is arrogant to boot then we have a really bad situation. In my honest opinion Pardew will out to get total control over signings etc. The arsehole never plays any of our players in the correct position and then he says they arn't good enough???????????

Kemen's been mentioned quite a bit lately, this is something from earlier in the week.

Metz striker Olivier Kemen says he is keen on a switch to Newcastle United following rumours about a move to Tyneside.

Reports have suggested that the 17-year old will sign a four-year deal with the Magpies, becoming the 11th Frenchman in Alan Pardew's squad.

Kemen is capped by France at Under-19s level and he says he will make the move to St James' Park providing talks between the two clubs run smoothly.

"Newcastle is a big team and they look after young players. If they agree everything with Metz, I will join them," he told Sky Sports.

"There are some good French speaking people there so I can settle there fine on the guidance of everyone there."

So, could it be that all of this playing players out of position is some sort of brinkmanship hissy-fit against Carr?

If so, then this could explain a heck of a lot of what's going on and if it were to be resolved then this could be beneficial for the club. And perhaps Kinnear is the man required to bang Pardew's head against the wall.

Perhaps Ashley should have hired Vinnie Jones as well. Not only to help Kinnear as enforcer but to be there for the next round of required CPR.

If I am right then it's all starting to make sense and Pardew ought to be dismissed for gross and wilful negligence but may be hard to prove in court so this is the only route available to Ashley. And, if all these assumptions are so then Pardew is going down further in my estimation than ever before.

No in all honesty I'd rather have the man on the street making those decisions.

No disrepect to you but how many time are you bewlidered by them? then we go on to lose the game.

Lol - top marks to the Mirror for putting a slightly different slant on the "crisis". What I want to know is which one of us on this board decided to be the "club insider"?!

That said, I had to laugh at this "quote":

"I’ve never seen or known a situation as intense or as bad as this."

What, ever? Or just in the history of Newcastle? Either way, that's one lucky and sheltered life this insider leads.
