If you excluded the players in the current squad, of all rest you have seen as a Blue, who would make your top 10. I list mine as (in no particular order) Peter Bonetti. Jimmy Greaves. Didier Drogba. Gianfranco Zola. David Webb. Claude Makalele. Peter Osgood. Ron Harris. Charlie Cooke. Bobby Tambling. I feel guilty about leaving out the likes of Wise ,Dixon, Bridges, Houseman ,Desailly etc but its a bit like finding 8 desert island discs!
this is difficult Charlie Cooke Bobby Tambling Zola Dider Drogba Ossie Pat Nevin Wisey Chopper Peter Bonetti
Wow! Difficult! Best: Zola, Drogba, Makalele, Robben, Petrescu, Wise, LeSaux, Desailly, RDM, Gudjohnsen. Don't know whether I've picked the best or my favourite there!
Maybe not a popular choice, but I think Ballack was supremely under rated. One of the best in his generation.
Greavsie is my favorite all time player, but that's from a Spurs point of view,i think Ossie was the best Chealsea player, just shading Hudson, from that very good 1970ish team
Might want to learn to spell Makelele's name first if you want to put him on your top 10 list Hasslebaink, Zola, Wise, Robbie, Poyet et al were players I enjoyed watching years ago
Being a grammar nazi is very different from being able to spell the name of one of your supposed legends...
Based on my lifetime: Petrescu Gullit Zola Desailly Cudicini Terry Lampard Zola Di Matteo Makalele Hasslebaink There are more, and obviously more current players that I'd include, but these encapsulate the spirit of the club for me and my memories of why I love CFC. If I was to do a post Roman list it would be: Robben Mata Ballack Essien A.Cole Terry Lampard Crespo Cech Makalele I don't disregard Drogba, he was amazing but I got pissed off with his "I hate it here" annual press release that he used to publish.
I tried really hard to do this but as I've been supporting Chelsea since 1968 my list was way, way too long to cut any out, there have been so many greats, and favourites over the years, I would have to include Ian Hutchinson in there though and surprised nobody else has, I was a big fan of his.
I would say that some players are missing from here, probably because they weren't as spectacular as some but should be here due to there commitment to the cause. Along these lines how about Dan Petrescu, Albert Ferrier, Nigel Spackman, Clive Walker, Frank Sinclair, Graham Le Saux, Joey Jones (came when we really needed him) and if had had more time and not about to walk out the door quite a few more who were far better than just average.
