    1986. Maradonna.

And the best WC game ever - Belgium 4-3 USSR.

I remember 74 well. Johan Cruyff, best player I have ever seen.

I watched that Belgium USSR game live, what a cracker. Igor Belanov scored a hat-trick and was on the losing team.

Reminds me of the Steve Heighway boots in the cheap shops, just one lump of rubber no studs.I feel guilty now 'cos probably gave the poor kid a terrible time,Billy's Boots and Alf Tupper true sportsmen.

Beating the Argies 1-0 in 2002 was special. Beating the Krauts 5-1 at the qualifying stage was like shagging three birds at once....heaven.

Aye, he helped to sink us in the FA Cup final in '74. He was a decent player.

Did you watch it? Brought back the whole mood of the time for me.

I was in Bulgaria during Italia 90 - arrived the same day as their first ever elections - Bulgarians racing about Varna two or three to each motorbike with Bulgarian flags with the Communist logo with the set square cut out of it.

Every game on TV you missed the kick off as they showed an adidas torsion advert with Steffi Graf for about four minutes when torsion gear still wasn't available in Bulgaria (you had to show a western passport to get into tourist shops and the local kids had only just discovered three stripe).

Beating Sweden was ****ing magic - Brazil was typical glorious Scottish failure - I saw the Costa Rica game after school in Scotland before we flew out.

But, I remember some of the England games the best. The game against Ireland, I was in a pub/restaurant (they were all state-owned and multi-purpose) full of Englishmen wearing a Celtic strip - jumped up cheering when Sheedy scored - had I been an adult, I wouldn't have got out of there alive.

I remember the Platt goal against Belgium and being genuinely pleased for the English folk I was watching the game with - that was the game that really ramped up the hype with the England fans and the next couple of days on holiday had a brilliant atmosphere.

Me and a few mates were meant to go to France in 98 but it all fell away at the last minute.

If Scotland ever qualify for a major tournament again, there's no ifs, buts or ****ing about - I'm going and I may only pack my kilt, a coolbox and a blanket.

Not watched it yet, but it's downloaded and ready to go on my external drives where i can watch it on the telly, got loads of downloads to sort and dvd rips i'm working on, currently ripping The Great Rock And Roll Swindle from some VOBS I downloaded as I couldn't find a decent rip and there are tits in it damn it.

That semi-final night will forever stay in my memory. I was back home after my first year at college, hadn't watched any sport all year till the world cup. Sat in my bedroom watching on a crappy little portable black and white telly with a grainy reception. Absolutely gripping. Was shell-shocked afterwards. We actually had a really good team then, just not as good as the Germans who were the best in the world.

    1986 - Argentina 2 A very talented Belgium side 0

Maradona's performance in this match is still the finest ever individual display of football. An absolute class apart that should be shown to any budding footballer.

Closely followed by Matthaus against Yugoslavia in 1990, and Zidane against Brazil in 1998.
