As I said, off the top of my head: It may well be that it was something similar to do with Zeppelins. All the WWII stuff is correct though, I know more about the WWII Hull Blitz than WWI. My great-gran told me some great stories from both wars. She said everyone from the Avenues area all use to take a pillow and go sleep in a field in Cottingham during Zeppelin raids.
Stick a quick vote on here everyone, we need the country to know we're behind this... http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...eally-begins/story-19338307-detail/story.html
We of couurse had a cunning plan ... we informed the Germans that it was a little known fact that we were actually 'twinned' with Zurich, which technically made us Swiss and therefore neutral ... at the same time we just may have let it slip out that Coventry were actively seeking to be twinned with Moscow ...
Hull used to have the epithet 'Gateway to Europe' franked on letters here decades before any other ports or cities did. Does Leicester have 'Gateway to Asby-de-la-zouch' or 'Gateway to Market Harbrough' as its USP?
Both ... we thought about linking ourselves to an eighties pseudo-glam-rock band much like you've done ... but felt it lacked a certain class ... mind you I fookin' loved 'Final Countdown' I'll admit ...
Oooh don't you just love stereotypes ... yes we are ... because that's where the majority of people who live in Leicester come from of course ... your going to have to try far harder Mr Tumnuss.
Has anyone been to Ferens Art Gallery recently? I went to see Martin Creed's exhibition today and it caused split opinion in the family of what exactly is art. Having Da Vinci, Warhol, Hockney and now Creed in the city is brilliant and I'm glad art is on the agenda in Hull; even if it does cause a debate in families!
It's more for people for enjoy modern art. If you don't like modern art then you may well laugh at it and raise a few eyebrows just like my dad did! There's around 5 works which are up but I was a bit gutted that 'lights on and off' wasn't there which I hoped it was! I'm just glad it got us talking about art and culture! If I'm honest I was gutted there wasn't any of his better works.
If you consider: - - 4 televisons with people puking up - 21 A4 pieces of paper coloured in with felt tip pens - a neon sign - a white wall with a paint roller diagonal lines art...then it is for you It is utter and complete bollox.......if you have read the story of the "Emperor's new clothes" then this is the type of **** that knobheads debate as intersting when in reality its rubbish. and yeah......I am Kirkellas dad
And Brian Sewell was the man who in an experiment of art comentators stated that a painting done by a chimp was "marvellous"
My father was in a house in Hull bombed in WW11. Buried overnight in the rubble. Don't feel too sorry for him, he survived and responded at Nuremberg, Dresden and Hamburg, amongst others. You sow the wind, you reap the Whirlwind.
Must be good then.....oh wait a minute where does it say you are located, Hertfordshire. Your not even in the county of Leicestershire let alone the ****ing city
