Liverpool FC has been paramount in my life for as long as I can remember. Hell, I have photos of me in a strip as a 4 year old in the 70's. My family (on my Dad's side) were at least as rabid as I in our support of the sides fashioned by Shankley, Paisley, ***an, Dalglish and Moran. Less well received was the misshapen offering from Souey, and while its success wasn't as we all hoped, Evans gave us some fantastic memories in terms of the footabll played. Ged gave us functional footie and the unprecidented Quad, and Rafa gave us 'That Night in Istanbul' and the 2006 FA Cup. Since that time, however, things went rapidly downhill. The sale of the club to Statler and Waldorf made a mockery of the club, run like their piggy bank. Empty promises, like the 'Spade in the ground in 90 days' and the penny pinching options - Voronin, quibbling over £2mil in the Barry transfer farrago, Jovanovic; Following Rafa's departure and the employment of Woy - another dire free, Joe Cole and the cheap past its and never weres - Poulsen and Koncheskey (with his mum). We were the butts of every joke going, with Woy being 'realistic' or, to give it the proper term - 'defeatist' in most pre-match conferences, kowtowing to the media regarding Man U. Having been there and suffered this, its nice to see what's been around, going around... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2344117/Joe-Kinnear-prove-takes-Newcastle--MARTIN-SAMUEL.html Nice to see Martin Samuel spray his bile in another direction... And the reaction to this entire story on the Barcodes' board has given me literally hours of amusement, reading the horror and outrage at the return or Joke an' Ear
"Suffered"??? LMAO, get a sense of perspective man ffs. Newcastle haven't won a pot in nearly 60 years & have suffered far worse times than is being provided by old Joe's recent arrival. To be fair to them most of them are laughing at themselves, as they're used to it.
Its a relative term - but the club suffered under Statler & Waldorf, and the fans suffered the bull**** from them over why things weren't happening. We became the butts of the jokes. Perhaps we've been priviliged to not have to suffer in this way previously. Perhaps I am just too sensitive. Newcastle are unfortunate that they've got an owner who is apparently so disconnected from day-to-day life that he thought this was a good move, but in PR terms he might as well have employed Ali Dia as Director of Football. Certainly, given the quotes coming from Joke an' Ear at the moment, any level of authority and standing in terms of football had already been diminshed - claiming never to have gotten a club relegated (Luton); three Manager of the Year awards (1); signing players of value on frees(signed by Bobby Gould, not him, and with transfer fees too). Owners like Ashley and Statler & Waldorf reduce clubs to laughing stocks by treating them like toys or bare commodities, without the realisation that the fans invest massively in terms of emotion. Actions which are derisary and foolish hurt the fans, although perhaps, as you say, I need to get perspective.
Yeah get a sense of perspective StJohn....at least you weren't born a bluenose please log in to view this image I can hear Tobes gnashing his teeth at this one....can you hear it too? please log in to view this image
