He's not Belgian, he's from the Congo(and should be playing for them) and the offence was ten years ago when he was a kid himself(not an excuse, just a point of fact). All of which is academic, as we can't afford him anyway.

I was going to make the same points myself. Lot of Congolese in Belgium (for historical reasons) they seem to have the same relationship as the Algerians do in France, and the Turks do in Germany. He may well have not had a lot of option about joining the "gang". Again, no excuse, just the fact of that sort of life.
The way I read it is that he referred to the people of Belgium as being wrong for accepting him as a pro player.
It was only possible to misunderstand that by choice. I consider a 16 yr old boy a vulnerable and easily led juvenile. The crime is appalling, the rehabilitation should be civilised. The penalty was hilarious; lesson learnt. I would have him, at the right price.
