    Danny Simpson set to sign

    Newcastle's Danny Simpson is ready to sign for Harry Redknapp’s Queens Park Rangers - after travelling to London for a medical.

    The former Manchester United right-back will join the Rangers push for instant promotion back to the Premier League after picking the Hoops ahead of other rivals.

    Simpson is a free agent after his contract at the Geordies expired, and will pick up a decent deal at Loftus Road as a consolation for dropping out of the top flight.

    Redknapp has had trouble with the right-back position, which was manned by Jose Bosingwa and Nedum Onuoha in the Rs' relegation season.

    Simpson wanted to return to his native north-west, but the chance to go to London and team up with Redknapp has swayed him.

    Good squad player. Sometimes out of his depth a bit in the prem but not always - - will do very well in the Championship.

    I would have been happy for him to stay as second choice rb but he wants to play football, for which you can't blame him

    a good squad player and gave his all. A good signing but I would think he may want to stay in the Prem.

    Think he'll be a top signing. In terms of Championship players, easily one of the better ones. Needs to step up to be Prem quality.

    Good player and part of the best defensive unit we've had in years season before last. Limited going forward but defensively sound. Got an unfair rough ride from some of ours.

    Will be a great signing for the championship. Solid, reliable and works hard.

    Not the most exciting full back in terms of getting forward, but when he does he can put in a decent cross.

    More the point, if you want a full back who can actually defend, tackle and clear the ball off the line to prevent a certain goal going in against you, then he's your man. <ok>

    He can't defend and he offers absolutely diddly squat in attack.

    His crossing is woeful and if anyone runs at him he just backs off until a cross is put in, then looks around angrily at his team mates as if it were their fault.

    I don't know what his tackling is like because I've never seen him make one.

    I kind of think this is too much of a step down. He could easily get into a PL side, but I guess QPR have the money.

    He's a reasonably solid defensive RB. Doesn't offer a lot in terms of attack, but will do a steady job at the back.
