    can't wait for tomorrow.....

As we excitedly wait to see who goes in…or out of the revolving transfer door at Newcastle United, off the pitch there could be other big names following Derek Llambias out of the door.

Alan Pardew has indicated he is ready to stay and fight, while not so positive rumours surround Chief Scout Graham Carr.

However, our understanding is that a name far bigger than any of them is set to be removed from St.James’ Park.

Shearer’s bar at the stadium is currently having a ‘refurbishment’ and the club website report that it will be closed until July.

However, our information is that Shearer’s name will be removed for good and Shearer’s Bar divided up into smaller units serving mainly corporate fans/guests.

The recently opened ‘Terrace Bar’ taking the place of Shearer’s.

Same scenario as when they changed the grounds name from SJP to Sports Direct or whatever it was. It will always be Shearer's to me and that is how l will continue to refer to it.
The Fat Rag Merchant really does hate us all, doesn't he.

So they've replaced a genuinely decent sports bar with a overpriced knock-off of City Vaults? Classy...

I feel (not in that way) for the lasses who have to come out and hand out leaflets with next to nowt on, usually in the freezing cold.

Ashley can change it's name it but to Toon fans it will always be Shearer's Bar.
What's the creep going to do next, move SBR and Wor Jackie statues.

If we all stopped paying for ST's and paid on a game by game basis, that would hit him in the pocket.

Of course it would hit us too, but not quite as much.

I think Ashley's just misguided and out of his depth. Ultimately he's in cheap retail, and it's a specific skill set. Doesn't matter if you're opening one new store or a hundred, the basic principles are the same and they are far, far removed from football.

Football is not really about profit, certainly not about cheap n cheerful and is not about not giving a toss about your customer base. In Sports Direct, where one is fed up because your tracksuits fall to bits, there's 5 pikeys in the queue not that concerned about how they look, just worried about how far their giro will stretch. At NUFC, the customer base willing to pay is limited and he completely misses that point. Alienating 20,000 customers will not see 20,000 fill their spaces. We do not sell out season tickets, we rarely even sell out the ground itself anymore. He doesn't get it. In his little world, what he THINKS he needs is someone he trusts who has a lot of football experience. Unfortunately for him and us, there's only one person he knows like that, because his social/professional circles are both small and exist well outside of football. In Ashley's world, he doesn't have a choice - Kinnear's the only option, because ultimately Ashley's just a fat guy with a shop, not some wondrous reclusive business genius.

I also ask you - the last time you were at Sports Direct, what were you there for? Was it the customer service? Was it the fact you could easily peruse the quality merchandise? Were you treated with respect, as an individual, as you wondered which item to purchase? Was there a steady stream of valuable advice on offer? Or was it like my last visit, where the assistant couldn't speak English all that well, where at least 5 pairs of the boots I wanted to try weren't even available and where trying to actually see what you wanted required sunglasses to remove the glare of the endless "70% DISCOUNT" stickers?

(Have you even tried looking for a football kit in that place? It's easier to do it on eBay, and that tells you all you need to know.)

Ashley has never been about customer service, loyalty, branding, experience. Ashley is about being the cheapest and catering for as many tastes - mainly poor - as he can. He's about BOGOF, false discounts and cost cutting (child labour still goes on with his brands). How does any of it translate to football? It doesn't. Hence Kinnear.

Me too. But in that way.

Its not right as the bar was created as a tribute for what the great man did for the club. I wonder if Bobby's statue will remain?

What, we need a bar to remember what Shearer did? A statue would be more apt.

Besides, does anyone know what the takings are like at Shearers? Is it used enough the rest of the week, or in the Summer? If it consisted of corporate space to be filled with people visiting the area for business meetings and gave up another £1m a year in takings, is it so sad?

Trouble is, the press will take it as another 'slight' on the "magnificent fans" and "how dare they take the name of Shearer and pi$$ on it like this". Ashley's COMPLETELY ignorant, he's not a great owner, I'd like him replaced. But he simply cannot be doing any of this to fck people off. Some people, in life, are just not great with people, they don't understand emotion in the same way. Similarly, how many of us own the largest sportswear chain in Europe?

Shearer slagged him off (indirectly) in a newspaper article (from what I heard on talkshite this morning) so I'd expect Ashley to do nothing less. Legend for the club undoubtedly but if you slate someone (directly or not) who owns a company which has your name plastered on it then I'd expect the owner to remove the name! (This is not a wind up from a mackem just an opinion)

No not really but that was the way chosen to remember his deeds for the club whatever any of us may think (A statue would be better). I don't actually think it is that big of a deal to be honest. Maybe that wasn't clear because of the tongue in cheek remark about Bobby. I just think Ashley's ability mistime things is quite amusing.

This is the danger of the Kinnear maelstrom. Actually, this has been planned for some time, and discussed with Shearer for some time, with a new bar called 9 being part of a new leisure area of SJP.

However, the current chaos and arrogance and anti press nature of insane joe means that the omission of a few key facts make this yet another thing to unsettle newcastle united and their fans. As if having a moron with no apparent knowledge of modern football blabbing inane and misguided musings at every turn.
