Andy Carroll looking like completing a 15 million move and getting a 100,000 a week for 6 years!!!!! Must be one of the most overrated players ever. Certainly in terms of transfer fees and wages. What other shockers are there? Sure there have been many in recent years with the money being thrown around.

I'm not sure there are many apart from Allardyce who do rate him.

Apart from perhaps a return to Newcastle, I literally can't think of another club who would be interested. The fact he's managed to hold out for a £100k salary is frankly more impressive, and probably shows the way West Ham are going to approach this transfer window. Rather than follow ourselves, Swansea, West Brom, etc and try and sign quality players on the cheap where possible, West Ham appear to be saying, we've got the cash, we'll buy who we want (and will come to us).

For that money though, there's going to be an awful lot of better strikers on the move. If Jovetic goes anywhere, I doubt he'll be on £100k a week, and the fee probably wouldn't be too dissimilar to £15m, maybe slightly higher. Even Higuain to Arsenal is only rumoured at £20m, and Arsenal (I believe) don't pay anyone £100k a week.

I dont know, the media seem to love him! Many people think he should be in the England team. Just dont know what people see in him? He is terrible!!! It pisses me off anyone thinks he is worth that much

Sorry in haste I forgot Nigel Reo Coker whose immensely talented agent has serially persuaded several otherwise sane managers to invest cash for apparently great potential. However this seems to end in a long time in the reserves or on the treatment table seeing out yet another lucrative contract!

Stuart Downing and virtually every England players self inflated view of their own ability. Jermaine Defoe for example, best and most natural finisher in the country blah, blah. Well if he is/was, why has he spent so much time getting butt splinters?

ooh I like this game, Carroll is obviously one of the most but others may be:

Ashley Young, Jack Butland and Wright Phillips.

But its too easy to pick english players I reckon

As a striker, particularly for England, Emile Heskey. Couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo!

England have had so many! Vassel was always a class act! Anderson for 20 mil wad pretty steep. At the start people seemed to think he was good just because he was from Brazil

<laugh> it did seem like there was a time when any club would spend a huge sum of money for anyone that was from Brazil just believing them to be naturally good. Oh how wrong they were

Its only so easy to pick English players because our media tell us what world beaters they are if they can kick the ball more than 3 feet in a straight line and not fall over!

We'll try Abramovich's mate Shevchenko, he may have been outstanding for his country and for his clubs pre-Chelsea but boy did he suck in the PL!

Anyone remember the Souness at Southampton story. Some guy turned up who was Brazilian claiming he as a friend of a famous Brazilian footballer and ended up playing for the team despite being hopeless

i am willing to go on record to say that i think andy carroll for £15m is a good signing. i don't believe he should be earning £100k a week (i don't think ANY footballer should earn that) but i do think he is a decent player and far, far better than he is given credit for, and i think he'll prove it given a bit of time. the guy is a beast.
